red mail Joseph COATES, stone dresser or stone mason born 1828
I am seeking information on Joseph COATES, probably born about 1828 in Rastrick. He appears in the 1851 census as a lodger in Holme Bridge and is listed as a stone dresser. If he is "my" Joseph Coates, he married a woman named Elizabeth (surname?) in the early 1850s and they had a son, Thomas Richard COATES, in Huntington in August 1854. They then apparently died, as the boy appears in the 1861 census living with an uncle and aunt in Huntington (Thomas and Jane SMITHSON) -- he remains there until an adult. I have only the name and profession of Joseph COATES as father in Thomas's marriage record, and the Huntington church baptism record for Thomas listing parents as Joseph and Elizabeth COATES. There is a family story that Joseph was working as a stone mason on York Minster in the 1850s making repairs following a fire in the 1840s. I believe the single Joseph COATES in the 1851 census may be the right person, and his birthplace is listed as Rastrick.
I am looking for information on the Coates and Barkham and Bentley Families who lived in Rastrick, Brighouse. Jack Harry Barkham-Bentley - Albert Barkham - Fred T Barkham and Elsie Coates - Sam Coates - Arthur Coates - Jacob Coates. Please get in touch if you think you can help fill in any gaps! Thankyou
