red mail 17 St Johns Road, Huddersfield
Greetings! I am trying to find out if anyone can tell me who was living at this address during 1915 to July 1916. This is the address that my grandfather, Harry PRESTON, gave when he joined the army in 1916 for himself, but NOT the address he gave for his wife and children who were living in Heckmondwike. Apparently there is nothing listed for this address in the 1911 census - it jumps from 15 to 19 St. Johns Rd., and it appears that there is now a church (modern) at this address. I am looking at the St. Johns Rd. that intersects with Clare Hill. Any help appreciated. Thank you from Toronto.

red mail Harry Kaye
I would like to find any descendents of my Paternal Grandmother. My Father was born 13/08/1923 and sadly passed away recently (23/06/2010). He was born to Beatrice Kaye, she was not married and would of only been about 16 to 18, so she would of been born around 1905 to 1907. He was not brought up by his birth Mother but someone we new as Nanny Ada, she had a sister Ivy, we think but not 100% positive they may have somehow been related to Beatrice Kaye. He was born in London and grew up there, but after some research many years ago it seems the family originated from Yorkshire. He always talked of a brother & sister called Roy & Carol who were/are in the Leeds area, more than likely step related. Dad served in the 1939-45 War, met and married our Mother - Constance Neuralia French in Oct 1945 and I am one of seven children, there are only five of us now and our Mother died 14/12/1984. He rarely talked about his true family and now that he has passed away we would really appreciate any info on links to Beatrice Kaye. She could well have married in later years and had other children. If anyone knows about Beatrice Kaye we would reallly appreciate knowing about her or any family she may have.
red mail Pilot Officer Allen Haigh
Pilot Officer Allen Haigh, Service No. 182988, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. I am seeking any living relatives, or friends of, or information apertaining to, Pilot Officer Allen Haigh, Service No. 182988, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, believed to be of the "West Riding, of Yorkshire, England". The information that I have on Pilot Officer Haigh, is to say the least sparse: "Pilot Officer Allen Haigh, Service No. 182988, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was the navigator of a Halifax Bomber, JP292-FS-W, that was shot down on a "Special Operation" over the night of the 3rd/4th July 1944 in Yugoslavia. Their mission was to drop supplies to resistance group "Stojka", ("Jay", as in the bird), in Poland, and they were shot down before they got to their rendezvous." My cousin was the Dorsal Turret Gunner/Dispatcher on the same aircraft. There were no survivors. The CWGC website gives only his name, number, rank, and service, the added information comes from my own researches. He appears to have no extant family after newspaper and radio appeals, which brought no response. Therefore any confirmation, or information, that you can provide is of great importance. I am constructing a memorial, and would like to include a photo, and a short biography of, Pilot Officer Haigh, for the memorial. At present all that will be included is the text in quotes above. Terry

red mail Robert Heaton m. Sarah Taylor - 1816
Am seeking ancestral information on a couple of ancestors, who had some children emigrate to the US and start a line of Heatons in Massachusetts. The father was Robert Heaton, who married Sarah Taylor, in December 1816, at Saint Peter's in Huddersfield. I have no idea on the years of birth for either. What has also confused the search is another Rober marrying in Oct-1816, to Elizabeth Firth (think that was her given name). This is, apparently, NOT the same Robert Heaton I'm seeking, so creates an interesting dilemma. Does the church, Saint Peter, still exist? If so, would the original record for Christmas Day, 1816, have listed the parents of either Robert or Sarah, or their ages, at least? They had at least two sons, Ephraim and Jabez, each married a Kaye. I believe the two Kayes (sisters?) were Hannah and Sarah. ANY help getting this line a generation earlier than Robert Heaton and Sarah Taylor would be MOST appreciated. I have much information on share on the descendants of Jabez, and a bit on those of Ephraim, if anyone is interested.

red mail Huddersfield Royal Visit 1918
Does any one out there have any info regarding a visit to Huddersfield town hall by the King and Queen in May 1918.According to a newspaper cutting 1700 children and 300 soldiers plus many others were there to meet the King and Queen.School children were given a days holiday, but 1700 were chosen to represent their school, one of these being Spring Grove.Does any one know which other schools were involved. My late mother was one of the little children presented to the Royals, she always said it was because her father had been killed at the Battle Of The Somme.I do not know which school she attended but would dearly love to know and then I could hope they have records I could check which could lead me to discovering who raised my mum as I don't know anything of her early life. Any help very much appreciated.
