looking for living relatives of Philip Woffenden born on 11/01/1875 in Horbury seventh of nine children to Henry Woffenden machine cleaner and Sarah Philipson. mesage from nov 2006 found said; looking for woffendens (speling variations welcomed)the furthest back I have is henery b.1839 in alverthorpe, general labourer. married to sarah, maiden name unknown, born horbury 1838. by 1881 census they are living in horbury, address 'the crofts, fender square' (i dont believe this still exists) 9 children living with them at this point: james (b.1861 horbury) mary a (born 1862 horbury) mary (b. 1865 horbury, marries ezra hampshire, see hampshires of thornhill 2 entries) emma (b 1867, horbury) albert (b.1870 horbury) annie (b.1873 horbury) phillip (b. 1876 horbury) edward (b.1878 horbury) and earnest (b. 1880 horbury) small amount of info on marriages of these woffendens. any help/info appreciated.
Berry Ripley
There is a memorial in Horbury for those fallen in the South African War 1899-1902. For some time I believed one of the names, Berry Ripley, belonged to my family. I now have reason to think this is not true. Does anyone know who he was and of his family?

1850, marriage of Jesse Ripley and Elizabeth Horner. From 1852-1871, children are baptised to Josiah&Bessy, Jesse&Bessy, Josiah&Elizabeth, Joshua&Elizabeth,and Jesse&Elizabeth. Does anyone know if these are the same people? All in Horbury. Particularly interested in Richard Ripley(son of Jesse) bap. 1854 (later m. Loking for any information on Ann Hinchcliffe who married Joseph Hemingway of Horbury. Although I can find no trace of their marriage. Joseph is on the 1891 census with his family at Horbury. On the 1901 census he is with Ann(wife)and Allan(son)Phinetta(Daugh)John(son). Ann gives her age as 29 and place of birth Burton Yorkshire. I have my Grandfathers (John) birth certificate as well as Allan and Phinetta's and all give maiden name for Ann as Hinchcliffe. I cannot find a marriage between these two or a birth for Ann Hinchliffe. Though I have tried different spellings of her surname.

I have traced as far back as George Hemingway Born horbury c1765 and have hit a brick wall deciding whether he is the son of Joseph hemingway or David hemingway as there are two Georges in Parish Records. I believe he married Elizabeth/Betty Issott. Is anyone researching the Issott family?

Does anyone know anything about my ancestors ISAAC COOPE, born and christened in Horbury 1782..His father was GEORGE COOPE, but thats all I know at the moment, as I cannot find any marriage details..The Coopes were a large family, most of them were Millwrights or stone masons by occupation. My Preston ancestors lived in Horbury for more than two hundred years. They were weavers and clothiers by trade. I would like to go further back as I am currently "stuck" at Thomas Preston who I believe may have been baptised in the nearby parish of Wakefield, although he married in 1692 to Deborah KIRK and they lived in Horbury. The last of my direct Preston ancestors left county Yorkshire in 1815 to live in county Norfolk. Anyone else researching this line? Anyone with intimate knowledge of Horbury?
