The people in question on my tree are: Betty Heaton (b.9 May 1813 in Haworth) she had the following siblings: Mary (1788), Sarah (1793), Grace (1797), John (1800) and Robert (1807). Their parents were: John Heaton (bap 11 Sep 1757, Haworth) and Lydia Constantine (birth about 1757) who were married 9 Nov 1779 in Haworth. Parents moved to Sheffield to have more children, (where name became BAGGIN) One branch moved to Haworth. Has anyone come across them in your own research or seen a gravestone in Haworth? red mail Bronte Family of Haworth
I am seeking clarification about whether the Bronte family lived in relative wealth or rather under more difficult financial circumstances? Furthermore there is often a fanciful notion that that the famous daughters were somewhat isolated from the rest of society, yet produced brilliant insightful works from limited social exposure. This seems unlikely to me as they did indeed travel to nearby cities and mixed well with other writers. Furthermore their clergyman father Patrick was a well travelled and learned man himself and must surely have similarly inspired his daughters and assisted with their writing concepts etc. I believe that Patrick had even produced some works of prose himself but I have never had this confirmed. It is also interesting that no photos of the family seem to survive. Admittedly it was very early when the sisters died yet around 1855 when Charlotte died photography was very popular. One wonders whether there are still photographs in private collections, either from Haworth or elsewhere? Please feel free to comment on these fascinating topics. Any comments welcome. Regards, Rob, Australia
