red mail George Heslop, Schoolmaster at Newsham - (Newsham - Yorkshire, North Riding)
I'm trying to find out more information about George Heslop. I believe he was the schoolmaster at an academy at Newsham called Earby Hall. His successor was called Ralph Simpson. I have found George and his wife Deborah Ann Heslop, possibly nee Turner, buried in the churchyard of the nearby village of Barningham. I have never been able to find a definite marriage for George and Deborah Ann in the nearby parishes - I've ruled out several possibilities that cropped up. The most likely one, I feel, is a George Heslop who married an Ann Turner in Marylebone, London, in 1782. I think that Deborah Ann may have been known as Ann - she is referred to as this on part of the gravestone. I would love to be in touch with anyone who is interested in this couple to compare notes. If this marriage is them, then why were they in London? There are a couple of possible children born to them in London, too. I believe George's parents to be George Heslop and possibly Mary Shaw. I would love to know more about this couple too, especially George senior's occupation.

Where Was Neshag? - (North Skelton - Yorkshire, North Riding)
I am researching the Kirk family, and I have an entry that is confusing me. Perhaps one of the kind folks in Yorkshire can help a Texan sort out this entry: Roger KIRK BIRTH: 1624, Neshag, Skelton, York, England DEATH: 24 Mar 1698, Lurgan, Armagh,Ireland Spouse: Elizabeth DUCK MARRIAGE: 1644, Skelton Par, Yorkshire, England I have this "Neshag" in several other family records, but I cannot locate this word anywhere." I can't find any other references to Ness Hag Wood either. What my ultimate intention is is to find further history of this family, so I'll include what I know: Roger Kirk's father was Alphonsus Kirk (Skelton Par. b. 1602) whose father was Thomas Kirk (b. 1550 in ?) whose father was Robert Church. Supposedly, Robert Church was a doctor in the Border Wars who changed his name to Kirk in Scotland. I think the story was invented when the Kirks were Tennessee hillbillies, but I have no better explanation. Any hypotheses or leads you can offer will be appreciated.
Dawe - North Skelton and area - (North Skelton - Yorkshire, North Riding)
After marrying Jane LEMING in Linkinhorne, Cornwall, Richard DAWE fathered four children before moving his family west to the Tintagel area. Their fifth child, Alfred John was born in 1872, and in the mid 1870s Richard moved his family to N. Skelton, Yorkshire. He'd been a tin miner; then became a iron miner. His father, brother, and sister and their families also moved north about then. Richard and Jane had five more children before she died in 1888. She's buried in Brotton. The family also lived in Saltburn, Marske, etc. The three males who lived, moved again to Lancashire before ultimately leaving England for the US. As far as I know the sisters married and settled throughout Yorkshire and some of the ancestors probably still live there. I'll be glad to hear from anyone who may be familiar with the area and know of any Dawe connection. Thanks

Christopher WASTELL appears to have been in the Scorton area from the late 1500s. His son Leonard (died 1630) was father of several sons, one of whom, John WASTELL (died 1659), was a Colonel for the Parliamentary Party. The family owned land at Scorton until 1754 when Rev Henry WASTELL sold it to the CROWE family of Kiplin Hall. I descend from an Elizabeth WASTELL (born 1690), who married Christopher BAYLES of Laxton, East Yorks.
