Gennings/Jennings-Mackwood
My great-great grandfather, John Gennings (or Jennings) married Ann Mackwood in Danby in 1826. Shortly thereafter, they emigrated to Upper Canada (now Ontario), where their many descendants reside today. Family records in Canada indicate his father was George Gennings, who married Mary (Jefferson?) in 1795. In England, the Gennings surname appears to have been variously spelled with a G or a J. Conventional spelling in the Canadian family today is with G. Would love to hear from distant Gennings or Mackwood cousins in the "old country" who could push the historical horizon back to earlier generations...brooster

red mail Scarth and Taylor
Hi, I'm looking for any information / links between the Taylors and Scarths in the Danby / Castleton area. I believe William Taylor was a labourer, born in Easington, and living and working with the Scarth family in 1881 and may have married the daughter of the house, Catherine Scarth. There is some evidence of a William and Catherine Taylor and their children but nothing solid that this is the right William etc and I can't find a marriage certificate for these two either - although if they are the couple I believe they are they went on to have five children. Any help would be much appreciated and similarly if I have any information I can share along the road I would be happy to do so. Many Thanks
