Clifford Branton - may have been baptised Frederick Clifford Branton - son of Frederick and Emma (Greenwood)Branton. Clifford died at sea (I believe off the coast of Greenland) sometime between 1918 and 1922. Any information would be welcome. It is understood his death was recorded by local newspapers, but I have had no success with finding the article or any record of his death either in the usual places or in the list of maritime deaths.

In 1889 he married Mary Jane Fell and at that time he was living in Howden. He died in Hull in 1938. The documents I hold show that his father was Thomas Nunns, a farmer. Looking for information about Thomas Leedham b. 1884(son of Richard Selby Leedham b.1850) originally from Hull, who married Jessie McNeilly in Grenada West Indies about 1916. He was a Church of England clergyman.He had 3 daughters,Ruth, Grace and Nancy. He was working in Guernsey at the start of WW2 and taken prisoner when the German Army invaded. He was transferred to a POW camp in Germany (Stalag 15). After the war he went to Glasgow for a time then to Bridlington, Yorkshire, to stay with a sister.

In 1846 Edward Dealtry married Ann Turpin (born in Hull in 1825) and then after her death married Charlotte Ledger (born 1844 in Lincoln) in 1872.

I have tracked William Henry who went on to have by 1901 (with wife Isabel Gertrude?) Thomas Cedric, Alice Ellaline, William Ernest & Doris Lillian. My great (great) grandfather was John Quarton Searby, a boatman later a Customs Officer at Kingston-upon-Hull (where this family originated and was centred). With his first wife Ann Pick he had two children William Sothern Searby who became a shopkeeper (Ham and bacon) in Bridlington and married Janey/Jennie/Jeannie Mewse. They had one child Rose Ethel who married George A Bullock in Hartlepool and possibly another daughter who died aged 5. I am not sure if my paternal grandfather Joseph Harold Searby (later a shopkeeper in Anlaby Road, Hull) was the son of John Quarton or of William Sothern. Janey/Jennie died in 1893 and William remarried, probably Clara Simpson and had further children. One of them, Marjorie, married Stanley Herman Pickering in 1926. Arthur Frederick married Ellen Pratt at Grimsby, became a Hosier's Manager at Bridlington and had one son. With his second wife Mary Temperton, John Quarton Searby had 6 further children. Florence Mary Searby married Charles Fearn Craven and possibly had a son - Arthur or George. Walter Searby married Ella Eliza French and probably had a son Walter who died aged 3. Harry Searby (Grocer in Hull) married Annie Wilson. Annie Searby married William Salton. Alice Searby married Arthur Fish and had children Arthur and Norah. Looking for family of my great grandfather John Henry Whiteman or Wightman b.abt.1864 Leith, son of William Henry Whiteman, a ship’s draughtsman. John was a merchant seaman recorded on marriage to Emma Donna Esther Lyth in 1886, Kingston Upon Hull, East Yorkshire. His name was registered on marr. cert. as MacWhiteman, but may have been known as ‘Mac’ by his shipmates. He worked for the Thomas Wilson shipping line (later Ellerman Wilson line) out of Hull, and was drowned on 18.9.1888 at Elsinore, Denmark when a ship-to-shore boat from the ‘S.S. Palermo’ capsized on launching, along with one passenger Arthur Shemeld from Northampton.

I am looking for any information about my great grandfather William Elliott born Hedon 1841 who by 1851 was in the Sculcoates Union Workhouse in Hull. I have not been able to find him on the 1861 cencus but he married Emma Fox from Welwick in 1867 in which year he also joined the police his number being 139.They had 7 children and in 1886 William became the first superintendent of the newly formed Hull City Police Fire Brigade. He had a dog called Jack who used to attend fires and when the dog died in 1893 it was buried with full firemans honours.(I would love to find out where). William was a Methodist and attended the George Yard Methodist Chapel and when he died in 1902 his funeral was filmed and shown at the Assembly Rooms - now the New Theatre. I have only seen one picture of him and he is wearing 2 medals and I wonder if he was in the Army or Navy during the years I have no trace of him.I would be grateful for any onfo or pictures - Linda

Particularly interested to trace any children of his; acording to Who's Who he was married twice, first wife's name unknown but they had a daughter (name also unknown), second wife Agnes Rennie Cumming whom he married in 1930 and they had a child (daughter?) called Rennie J Vines b 1933. Walter was b 1890 the eldest son of Professor Sydney Howard Vines prof of Botany at Oxford; he had a sister Margaret Beaufort Vines, and a younger brother Howard William Copland Vines who became Prof of Pathology at London University. Hi looking for any info on the graysons(sculcoates area) originally from ripon area watermen thomas henry grayson married Catherine Denine(born newfoundland}2 daughters Elizabeth born 1896 she married Daniel Johnston Catherine Mary born c 1898 married and as far as I know had children wonder if there was some rift as never mentioned but do recollect when I was younger a niece visiting my gran and still living in the hull area in the 1970s hoping someone has a connection as they might be able to tell me a bit about the Denine and Grayson family

In 1854 William Croft Johnson (1834-1909)married Mary Johnson (1836-1885). William's father was Charles Johnson (born 1811), sometime confectioner and later a railway labourer. His mother was probably Phillis. In 1841 Charles and family were living in Alfred Street, Hull. Mary's parents were John (1811-1854?) and Mary (b 1813) Johnson. In 1851 John was described as a Victualler & Bricklayer living in Alfred Street! Were William and the younger Mary related? Can anyone provide any more information on these Johnsons?

William (b. 1835) and Henry (b. 1837), sons of Robert and Mary, were born in Harford House, Howard Lane, Bradford, Yorkshire, England. The two brothers removed to Brewster, MA USA and then Pawtucket, RI USA I can not find this location or family in Bradford, England. I did find in the 1841 Census a family that resembles this living in Reedness, Whitgift, Yorkshire, England. There were no parents listed as living with this family however along with William and Henry (of the right age) are an older sister Mary age 13 and older brother Robert 12 and a 2 year old sister Ellen. However all the U.S. Census records state that William and Henry were born in Hull.
