red mail Signaller SAMKIN, Essex Rgt. World War I
On 13th Aug. 1916 my Great Uncle L. Cpl. Bernard George LAMPARD was killed by a German shell near THIEPVAL, Somme. Signaller SAMKIN witnessed the death. He wrote several letters to Bernard's sister, Ethel Wilson, of Platt's Heath (my grandmother) and their mother, Kate Smurthwaite, of Bognor. In one letter he said that he hoped to meet them if he suvived the war, he would then be able to tell them more about what happened. I have often wondered if the meeting took place? In one letter S. Samkin says that before the War he was a ship's steward with G.E.R. channel steamers running between Harwich and Rotterdam, he had one brother and 3 married sisters. If there is anyone out there who is a decendant or relation of S. SAMKIN, I would be thrilled to hear from them.
red mail Shearing / Gaffney and Shearing / A'Court (Acourt)
I am looking for some information regarding:- Frances May Gaffney (1905-1984) married Frederick J Shearing in 1924. Firstly we are looking for any information regarding Frederick's date of birth. We believe that Frances and Frederick only had one son, Frederick H H Shearing born 1924 as we have not been able to find any other record of children born to them. My second query is regarding Frederick Jnr. We believe that he married a Normer Acourt (possible birth certificate spelling) in 1946. On their marriage certificate her name is spelt Norma A'Court. We are looking for evidence as to whether this is her actual birth certificate as the spelling differences is making us wonder whether it is really the same person. We are also looking for any information regarding any possible children for Norma/Normer and Frederick H H Shearing.

He is my great grandfather, who left his wife (not my great grandmother) without a divorce, for my great grandmother, who in turn had left her husband (without a divorce). Her name was Lillian Vickery (married to William Vickery I think). Henry Ablett committed suicide, I believe after WWII, he had cancer. My Grandfather Henry Ablett's son, was Henry Guy Vickery born 5 Nov. 1919. Henery Ablett had another son with Lillian his name was/is Clifford Vickery. Lillian had two daughters and two sons (twins) with her husband Vickery. I think his name was William I am not sure. One of her daughter's name was Queenie, and the boys were Erinie and I don't know the other twins name but they had the nick names of "Sunshine" and "Rain". Erinie had a son who moved to Austraila named Malcom, but that's all I know. Henery Guy Vickery (Henry Ablett's son) had two children with Claudine Mary May Bars (Barrs?), Ian Vickery and Ann Christine Vickery. Ian had one child a daughter, and Ian passed in a car accident when he was young, I think 25 or 26, her name is Joanne Owers (her stepfather adopted her). Anne had three children, one of which I am.

Beckwith - Davey from Rivenhall, Essex
My great, great, great grandfather, Joseph Beckwith (1809-1878) married Rebecca Davey (1801-1890) in 1827. Their eldest son William Beckwith (1828-1864) married Sarah Ann Garrett (1830-1863) in 1848 and with their two children Emma(2) and Alfred(1) emigrated to Melbourne, Australia, departing Plymouth on 16 Dec.1851 on the barque Lady Elgin, arriving in Melbourne on 26 Mar.1852. William and Sarah's third child, Joseph William Beckwith (my great grandfather) was born in Australia in 1852 soon after their arrival. William's parents, Joseph and Rebecca Beckwith, also emigrated to Melbourne 1856 with their children Elizabeth(27), Anthony(22), Elijah(13) and Walter(10) on the barque Earl Grey, arriving in Melbourne in June 1856. I am interested to learn any family history details regarding the Rivenhall or Bradwell areas in Essex, in particular, to find any connection with the Western Arms innkeepers: Thomas Beckwith(1791-1860), his son John Beckwith(1821-1911) and his nephew Joseph Brand Beckwith.
