red mail BOGGS MAGHERAFELT SEARCH PLEASE?
Could Anyone search Magherafelt Church records for me? My 3 x great grandfather JOHN BOGGS was born in Magherafelt in 1757. His parents were JOHN BOGS and SARAH MORGAN. He was originally an apprentice tailor. He joined the Royal Artillery, was sent to Canada where he married in 1788 in Quebec City a DEBORAH DUFF KING. My grandmother told me they had 11 children. I only know the names of five! I understand that he had several of his children christened when he returned home on a visit to Magherafelt. I have been told that the names of his children are to be found in the mid 1700s in Magherafelt church! I would be grateful if anyone could find them for me! Best wishes Frances
red mail campbells of Londonderry
Hi, I am researching my great grandfather James Campbell born either magherafelt or Londonderry in 1851. He married Mary Macaleer in the long tower church londonderry in 1868, and went on to have eight children. Mary ann, william, James, charles, Joseph, Frederick, Gertrude and christina. He appears to have lied on his marriage certificate claiming to be of full age, but if his death certificate is to be believed, he died at age 39 in 1890 which would have made him only seventeen when he married. As my great grandmother came from county Tyrone, we consider there must have been some impediment to the marriage, possibly religion. Because there appears to be no catholic baptismal lines for him, and there is no registered civil birth record because of the time, I am hoping that someone will recognise these people as being from their own family. Any help would be amazing.

I'd be happy for any Byrnes/Burns information relating to Magherafelt area. I'm looking for athe ancestors of David Byrnes b. 1768 who joined the Derry militia and ended up in Dublin, then Australia. Letters posted from his wife in Magherafelt, could suggest he was from this area. Thanks.
red mail KIRKPATRICK/SIMMS
Looking for information on my mom's family. Margaret Isobel Porter, dau of William Henry Porter and Ann Mary Kirkpatrick Ann Mary Kirkpatrick, dau of James Kirkpatrick and Mary Simms All I know is that my grandmother had several older brothers and two older sisters--Margaret Kirkpatrick and Jean Elizabeth Kirkpatrick. Jean came to the US and married David Moffatt. She later sent for her sister, Ann and her family (William Porter). The Porter family left Ireland and arrived in the US in January 0f 1948. My grandmother, Ann Mary Matilda Kirkpatrick was born in Tirgarvil. She and my grandfather, William Henry Porter, were married in April 1935. My grandfather served in some sort of military (I have a picture of him in uniform). My grandmother also had brothers, Vance, Robert, Sandy, Alex (and several others). Two of her brothers were shot and killed during the outbreaks in North Ireland. I also know that Vance married Lizzie and have a daughter, Margaret Jean. My gramdmother's brother, Robert, has a son, Robert James Gilmour Kirkpatrick living in Templepatrick; he goes by the name Jimmie and is married to Eileen. I would LOVE to have more information on my mom's family. Ann Mary Matilda Kirkpatrick, b. 10.16.1917, m. 04.25.1935 William Henry Porter b.04.21.1908 Children: Ann Mary Matilda Porter b. 02.18.1936 James Gilmour Porter b. 08/08/1938 d. 08.06.2000 William Henry Porter Jr b. 03/13/1940 d. 2005 (approximately) Margaret Isobel Porter b. 08.14.1941 d. 06.21.2010 Olive Porter b. 1943 (approximately) d. 1945 (approximately) Roberta Henrietta Porter b. 09.07.1945 Left Ireland on the Queen Elizabeth I (Cuinard Ship Line) in December 1947 and arrived in New York in January 1948. All remained subjects of the United Kingdom.
red mail LEE or LEES
Seeking Lee(s) family ancestors of John and brother Thomas Lees who emigrated from Ireland in 1832 arriving into Canada and settling in Carlton County, Ontario. Thomas is shown on his headstone as a native of Co. Derry, so assume his brother John was too. My husband's Lee line stems from John Lees who, we believe was born circa 1791. His son, Robert Lees, also emigrated with them and we tracked Robert's baptismal record to Magherafelt Presbyterian Church, Magherafelt, Co. Derry on 17 March 1815. We visited the church in 2004 and the warden drove us to the townland of Dunamoney close by and showed us a derelict Irish weaver's cottage in which he said a Lee family had lived. Don't know if this is our Lee(s). Headstones in the church graveyard showed Brown and that name was also on Carleton County land close to the Lees in Canada. There's reference in Canadian records to a nephew called James Brown, close by the Lees, so John and Thomas Lees (brothers) could have had a sister with them too (mother of James Brown, possibly named Elizabeth, married to Isaac Brown). Any info on ancestors who stayed in Ireland relating to John and Thomas Lees (brothers) who emigrated to Canada along with other family members including John's son, Robert, possibly Elizabeth (John's wife), and other children of John: Mary, Sarah, William and Elizabeth, all possibly b. around 1817-1820 (Magherafelt area or at least Co. Derry??). The recurrence of the name William suggests this could have been the name of the father of John and Thomas, but this is just speculation at this point in time.

red mail Arthur Hillman 1781 - 1847
Arthur Hillman, my emigrant ancestor. Baptised Magherafelt 1st February 1781. Died New Orleans during a Yellow Fever epidemic 8th September 1847. Emigrated from Ireland to Albany, NY ca. 1824. Married Castle Dawson 24th January 1804 Catherine Mortimer Fleming (born ca. 1789, died New Orleans 7th September 1847). 10 children, probably, of whom 7 were baptised in Castle Dawson, and the younger 3, presumably, were baptised after the family had emigrated to Albany in upstate New York. We think the family probably descends in the paternal line from some rather violent Hillmans who were settled in the Coleraine area from England around 1600, but attempts to 'prove' such a link - most seriously by my grandfather who spent several months in Ireland on the project in 1910 - have failed to identify such a link. I'd welcome the opportunity to compare data on the ancestors, kinsfolk and descendants of Arthur Hillman and of his wife, Catherine Mortimer Fleming.
