red mail Grandparents of Richard Kenwrick
I am looking for the parents / grandparents of Richard Kenwrick my Great Great Grandfather. Richard was born c 1772 in Pershore, Worcestershire. He married Mary Harris on 15 August 1808 in Hartlebury, Worcestershire (registered in Halesowen). He was a Butcher, He died 1 Jan 1825 aged 53 and is buried against Hartlebury Church. There is a possibility that he may have descended from the Kenwricks in Kings Sutton Northants or from the Rev Edward Kenwrick in Stratford upon Avon in Warwickshire but as yet I have not made a firm connection. In turn these Kenwricks may be descended from the same family name in Lancashire and / or Staffordshire. Richard and Mary had 9 children, Robert, who died young, Mary, Cecelia, Robert (2nd), Richard, Elizabeth (Bessie), Christopher, Charlotte and William (9 June 1823 – 18 Feb 1907, my Great Grandfather). My Great Grandfather William (k/a Will) was born in Hartlebury. He was a butcher and farmer and farmed at Astley Towne. A Worcestershire directory dated 1884 shows him as a farmer at nearby Wood Green. The same directory shows his 2nd son William (1853 - ) as a butcher in Stourport-on-Severn. His other 2 sons were George (15 May 1851 – 9 January 1938), a Surveyor and my Grandfather Charles Harry (22 March 1855 – 5 Dec 1933), Will had three wives Ann Clarke, Rhoda Cooper and Charlotte Danks, but all three boys were born to Rhoda. A decennial census return ref RG 9 2086 p 158 as at 7 April 1861 shows Will in residence at Astley Towne Worcestershire, a farm of 63 acres employing I man and 2 boys. He was also there as at 30 March 1851 ref NO 107 2041 pp 207 & 201. My Grandfather Charles Harry Kenwrick was baptised at Astley on 10 April 1855. He was a butcher and produce dealer. He married Ellen Griffiths (? 1870 – May 1937) on 23 May 1892 in Stourport-on-Severn and they had 7 children, Nellie Blanche (19 Jan 1894 – 2 Sep 1981), Marion Millicent (25 June 1896 – 25 Nov 1983), Charles Haddon Spurgeon (20 Jan 1898 – 19 Jan 1977), Archibald Harry (2 April 1899 – 13 Aug 1948), George William (1 Feb 1902 – 11 April 1987), Winifred Cecelia (16 Apr 1905 – 13 February 1972), and the youngest of whom was my father, Alfred John Cooper Kenwrick (2 Apr 1908 - 4 Jun 1982). The 'w' in my surname has always intrigued me and if anyone can throw light on this, that would be helpful. Thanks in advance for any help. Robert
