Goddin / Godden / Godding
Seeking any information on James Goddin born West Lavington circa 1800 / 1802. Joined local regiment but age given as 15 years in 1813. Sailed to Madras on Military ship 'Rose' which embarked London 28th Jan 1813 landed at Madras India July 1913. Rank given as Gunner. Army pensioner in 1845 when age given as 42 yrs 7 mths and place of birth as Lavington Wilts England. Name often mis-spelt Godden and has been seen as Godding with 'g' crossed out. Transferred to Artillery Vn (veterans?) Co in 1845. Does anyone know his regiment or any other details, marriage, children etc. If correct person he might be one of my forbears. My Gt Grandfather William Goddin was in the Hampshires as a bandsman in the Governor of Madras' band. His son, my Grandfather Walter Elliott Goddin was also in the Hampshires and was Bandmaster Sergeant. Thanks.
