My grx2 grandfather was Richard Barnard, cabinetmaker, born abt 1821, living in Canterbury area in all censuses; he gave place of birth as Bristol. On his second marriage, to Mary Cowdale (actually Cowdell), he reported his father as Richard Barnard, goldbeater. (He had numerous children born in Canterbury and Blean 1850-1870.) In 1851 and 1851, there is a Richard Barnard, goldbeater, in the workhouse in Mere (reported married in 1841 - can't find any wife or kids; reported widowed in 1861.) A Richard Barnard born abt 1792 died 1869 in Mere. I can't hook these Barnards up with any others found in censuses anywhere. Anyone?? Thanks!

Looking for great-great grandparents, James Crowhurst and Elizabeth Jane Hill Crowhurst. The 1901 census shows them living at the Causeway, Mere, Wiltshire. It also shows their grandson, Hugh S. Fairband, living with them (11 years old). James died in 1903 and Elizabeth lived at that address until January 1919, when she died.
