red mail Hull Family
My wife is a direct descendant of Richard Hull who was born in Christian Malford in 1780 to Thomas and Ann, nee Hopkins. Richard married Hannah Day in Kington St Michael in 1804, and subsequently ran a shop and premises in Seagry Road, now Flambe restaurant, and I would welcome contact from anyone with news of the family . Richard, later a Yeoman, subsequently moved from Sutton Benger to Stargroves East Woodhay south of Newbury, and his son Henry farmed Church Farm in that village later
red mail The Wests of Christian Malford and
In 1844, the Poor Law Union's Emigration Fund for Christian Malford (village) sponsored a "poor but respectable" family to migrate to Australia: William Bath, his new wife Sarah West, his children from his first wife and those from his new wife sailed to Australia on the "Hamlet". They settled at Walcha on the New England Tableland of NSW on a farm called "Malford" and prospered. Descendents still own "Malford". In 1842 and 1843, George Crisp West and his sister were born at Ch. Malford, the children of John West (poulterer) and Jane Crisp. As a young man, George journeyed to Australia and married Catherine Levingston at Walcha in 1871. George and Kate became my great-grandparents. George was probably Sarah's nephew. Sarah was apparently born at Bath (not Brighton, as often stated) 5 Apr 1815, dau. of Thomas (boatman) and Elizabeth; she married the widower William Bath in "Trinity" in Bath on St Valentine's Day (14 Feb) 1842. Any info about these Wests of Xn Malford and the City of Bath much appreciated. Furthermore (8 Nov 08): See Thomas West in 1841 Census (b 1796, Res: Ch. Malford). See 1851 Census (b 1795 Xn Malford, spouse Elizabeth, Res: Ch. Malford, two children Eliz. jr 18 and Thomas jr 12). See 1861 Census: Thomas West b 1791 Bridford (prob. Bradford on Avon), Elizabeth West b 1798 Chtian Malford). Not in 1871 Census. Bradford perhaps became "Brighton". Were Thomas and Elizabeth the parents of Sarah West AND John West?!
