Cardus , Carodus , Caradice etc , Westmorland
My Cardus genealogical search has been centred on Lancashire ... However there seems to be a connection to Kirkby Lonsdale , Westmorland : ... James Cardus or Caradice or Caradus married Elizabeth Dewhurst in 1824 , at Kirkby Lonsdale....It would be interesting to ascertain whether any of the Westmorland folk 'migrated' to Lancashire , and settled for the surname 'Cardus' , leaving behind the spelling variations ...

I've tracked down Richard Huck. He was born 1834 in Whinfell. In 1841 at 17 yrs old he was living in as a servant.
