red mail Daniel MCNEILL, b 1860 in Currie Scotland
Daniel died in Westmoreland in 1920. In 1889 in Dartford, Kent, he married my great-aunt, Mary McNeill BROWN. They had no children. They settled in Burneside and in 1911 Census, Daniel was given as Paper Mill Manager. I think this was James Croppers mill. Daniel's brother-in law, Francis (Frank) Reid BROWN (b 1880 in Juniper Green, Scotland, died 1963 in Sussex) also worked at the Mill and was given as Assistant Manager. His wife was Rachel MCKENZIE (b 1879) and they had two children, Rachel Mary and Catherine Margaret. I do not know what happened to either his wife and children, but Frank moved down to High Wycombe, and I think he may have worked at one of the paper mills there, with other members of my grandmother's family. Frank was my great-uncle. I am wondering if Helen MCNEILL, (b 1909) might have lived in Burneside with Frank/Daniel after her mother died in 1912. Frank lived at Oak Cottage, Burneside.

Burneside, Kendal, Cumbria
We have formed Burneside and District Heritage Group with a group of 8 others. We are in possession of the papers left by the late Harry Palmer who was the local reporter for the Westmoreland Gazette. He has extracted all the entries relating to Burneside for the period 1933 to 1960's weddings, funerals, local events etc. A large number of photographs from the school, church, cricket teams from 1880's football. A lot of them with names. We have photocopied all these entries and they can beaccessed by anyone. A lot of work to be done. We have too much exciting material to note here.
