Searching for:
Searching for information of my father Sydney James Hadley, born 1896 - died 1959 in London. Family belived to be from Lacells/Lazells? part of Birmingham. He had two brothers and two sisters (one became a teacher at a girls school in Stratfor-upon-Avon. The other was a secretary to the director of Dunlop Tyres Birmingham. I have no knowledge of his brothers. My father ran away and joined the Royal Navy around 1909 (gave false age) he saw action at the battle of Jutland, his ship was sunk and he was rescued and sent to a military hospital in Malta. He subsequently lost three toes on his right foot. I believe he was a petty office (blackgang) but left the navy around 1920 and joined the merchant navy. His estrangement form his family ment that we as a family did not have any contact with his siblings. His father was, I believe, a silversmith as was his grandfather (in Birmingham). He married and lived in the Southend area until around 1935-7 when his marriage broke up, he had two sons Albert and George by his first wife. He subsequently moved to Poplar E.14, London where he married my mother (Nee Louisa McKie) in 1939. I am the second of three brothers. My father worked for many years at the Shaw Savil shipping line in London's Royal Docks at Silvertown. I have photo's but know little about his earlier life - can anyone help?
