red mail Rainey Family
Looking for any relatives of John Rainey Born 1863 Birmingham. Father James Rainey Brother William Joseph Rainey?
ROSIER:William Samuel b 1864, & family.
Seeking any information on the Rosier family of Aston 19th / 20th century. William Samuel b1864 was married to Jane Amelia Goddin who was my grandfather's sister. Both the Rosier family and the Goddins were in the British Army in India. William Rosier was a colour sergeant in the South Wales Borderers and my grandfather Walter Elliott Goddin was a bandmaster sergeant in the Hampshire Regiment, which was the official band to the Governor General of Madras. It appears that after leaving the army the Rosiers returned to Aston. A later census gives them there with several children although my mother never mentioned having relatives in that area. The Rosiers second son Charles Douglas was killed in Mesopotamia in WW1. He was a corporal in the 7th Bn North Staffordshire Regiment. The citation on CWGC gives his mother and father's address as 111 Whitehead Road, Aston Birmingham. Also shown on the census were: Roland Cuthbert b 1895. Amelia Dorothy b 1897. Winifred Ann b 1898, and John b 1900. These would all have been direct cousins of my mother Doris Goddin b 1907 and she must have known them. From BMDs it appears that Roland died Birmingham in 1962. Winifred married Francis Cliff in 1929 and died Chelthenham in 1953, and John probably died Birmingham in 1969. They must have had other connections in the West Midlands area. There are still descendants of that Goddin family in Sussex and Kent including myself. Any further information would be appreciated.

Charles & Florence lived for a while in Aston, possibly as Charles' work was there, and they had their first child Leslie Griffiths in Aston in 1918. By 1920 they were living in London. I am trying to trace the wherabouts of Edith & Sydney/Sidney. They may have kept the surname Griffiths, they may have been brought up by their mother's family, Jones, or they may have been adopted and names changed completely. They would be half siblings to my father. Any information, even the slightest clue or hint of where to try next would be appreciated. Many thanks Sue

I still need help though, I now know that Alfred James Turner c.1875 married Theresa Yates c.1877 in 1899. Theresa's father was William Yates and her mother Ellen Maria Turner. Therefore I am trying to discover if Alfred and Theresa were related before their marriage. Alfred appears to have been born in Lancashire but as yet I can't find a registration of birth. If anyone knows of this registration reference I would appreciate your help as it seems my only course of action is to order his birth certificate.
