red mail HAWKINS family from Sidlesham
The Hawkins family lived in Sidlesham in the early 19th C. John Hawkins and his wife Hannah (who came from Selsey) were both born in 1801. He was a farm labourer and sometime mariner. They had 8 surviving children that I know of, John b 1829, George, b1831, Ellen b1833, my Grt, Grt Grandfather James, b 1836, Mark b 1837, Harriet b 1838, Mary, b 1841, William, b 1843. Apart from my ancestor who became a mariner and moved to South Wales in the late 1850s, it seems that most of the family remained in the area. I would be pleased to hear form any descendants who are interested in tracing the rest of the family or who know any details of the family before 1801.
