James Burfield was born in Rye, Sussex in about 1796. He married Mary Cooper who was also born in Rye in about 1800. They had a daughter named Matilda who was born in Rye in about 1822. Can anybody tell me anything about this family. Parents of James Burfield and Mary Cooper? When were they married? Did they have other children?

My great grandmother Louisa New moved into Rye workhouse in 1895 with all but her eldest child and was paid 10s6d as a temporary cook. She changed her's and the childrens' name from New to Livermore at that time. The workhouse records state that a description of "The man New has been furnished to the police". Nothing more was heard of James New (gamekeeper) or of the eldest son who disappeared with him. My grandparents never discussed the matter nor did the rest of his siblings. The workhouse story only came to light after my grandfather's death but we were unable to trace any further. Any help appreciated

Looking for George Wire born in Rye in 1848. I know he married Eliza Ruth Stapeley in 1868 and that he had moved to Hythe in Kent by this time.In the 1861 census George's parents are listed as George Benton and Ellenor Wire but I think there is some mix up in the entry as the family next door were called Benton.

Researchers should note that the registration district of Rye Union (part of Rye) was in Kent and often shows up as Kent rather than Sussex. Don't know when it changed, but I have a marriage cert. dated 1851 clearly showing it as "Rye Union in the Counties of Sussex and Kent".

I am looking for any information for the BRAZIER family. Henry BRAZIER was born and died in Rye 1802-1845 and married a Mary Munn FURBY. They had two sons Henry & Frederic. Henry died as an infant. There is a memorial plaque in Rye Parish Church. It is believed that Frederic lived at Old Place, Sandhurst Cross. I have seen quite a few BRAZIER graves in Rye Parish Churchyard but I am unable to link any to my family at present. Has anybody done research in this area?

We have a copy of the birth registration from Hull for George Huntley Atkins born in Rye Susses in 1844. We cannot read the old english handwriting and it looks like Croonshank, or Carrochet etc. Anyone have any ideas of what this could be?
