red mail Richard Fielding Clark
I am looking for the siblings and history of the life of my grandfather, Richard Fielding Clark, of Fancy Cottage, Broad Oak, Heathfield. He lived there from 1916 to 1955 with Mary Ann Salter, Violet Salter and Mary O'Brien and came there from probably Horsham via Punnets Town and Brighton. He was a Rag and Bone Man and would take his large family (15+) hop-picking twice a year to Hollingbourne, Ore, Goudhurst, or Cranbrook. The women were hawkers. They lived a similar lifestyle to the local gypsies and its thought he was from an Irish Tinker background. He was a small workaholic who walked BEHIND his horse and trap as he was doing the rounds. He knew local farmer Tom Vine and the Mapps/Knapps sisters who also had a farm nearby and Paychee Marchant. His sister Lizzy lived nearby. Please get in touch if you know anything.
