red mail Absalom Hawkins' parents
I have looked all over for the correct parents of Absalom Hawkins, bap. 1792 in Burwash to John and Mary, but my conclusion is either that John and Mary's marriage was not recorded, or that this Mary was actually Elizabeth, of John and Elizabeth also having children in Burwash. I found two marriages in the Sussex Marriage Index CD: John Hawkins and Mary Spicer married in Brighton in 1791. However, it looks like they remained there and had many children baptized in the St. Nicholas Parish, including a Sarah Hawkins bap. 25 Mar. 1792. Another John Hawkins marr. Mary/Maria Murrell in Barnham W. Sussex in 1791, but their first child was bap. at John Hawkins home in Climping - John Hawkins, bap. 1792. So where are Absalom's parents? It seems likely that John Hawkins and Elizabeth, giving birth to children in Burwash, may have been Absalom's parents. Their children were all given biblical names like Absalom. Perhaps Elizabeth is a Mary Elizabeth or an Elizabeth Mary? I'd love to find out for sure, but I'm not sure how. Any more info is welcome!
red mail Burwash
Anscombe Harmer (Revised Feb 11 Green) I am looking for any information on a Sarah Anscombe who I believe was born in Burwash about 1855. All census records show her place of birth as Burwash, but I am unable to find any birth record for her.
