red mail Hider / Hyder
Can anyone please help me with any details on John Hider / (Hyder) a labourer who is listed on the passenger list for the "Oriental" which sailed from Southampton in June 1855 and arrived in Port Adelaide, South Australia in November 1855? He was accompanied on this voyage by his wife Elizabeth and son Henry. Their ages are listed as 42, 39 and 10 respectively but there is some conflict about this with the 1841 and 1851 Censuse information. I am particularly trying to find any details on John which may indicate his birthdate (probably around 1813) and parentage. He would more than likely have been married around 1845 so there could be a record of his marriage somewhere which could provide further clues and perhaps even give Elizabeth's maiden name. From what I can see the name Hider / Hyder was fairly common in Berwick but I can't make any connections to the said John as yet. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
