red mail Matching the Bakers
James (a miller) and Mary Baker, b. abt 1800, had 8, perhaps 9 children: Maurice (b. 1821), Charles, Emily, Eliza, Alfred, Ellen, James, and Mary (b. 1836) (see 1841 Census, Aldingbourne). By 1841, both parents had disappeared and all were living with Maurice, the oldest (?) brother. Or so it seems. I cannot find the burials of the parents. Maurice and Charles state that they were born in Billinghurst, Sussex on census records, but I cannot locate them. I also found a William Baker in the Aldingbourne St. Mary Parish (b. abt. 1817 in Sidelsham, who married Emma, and had children Ann, George, Elizabeth and Henry)and am wondering if he might be connected to the family. I found him in a tithe record in Sidlesham in 1848 connected to a James Baker, and also found him with a William Baker, age 45, in Sidelsham. But considering his parents may have already died, William may not be his father. Any help on this please?
