red mail Brown, Bushby, Day, Nightingale - (Earlswood - Surrey)
The Conservators of Earlswood Common were set up to protect the common from excessive brickworkings, and to assist in allowing grazing rights & to keep the character of this large open space up on the hills just South of Reigate. My Great Grandfather was one of the first conservators, and one of two businesses allowed to continue making bricks. William BROWN's business was just off the N W Corner of the common and separated from the common by Pendleton Road. The brickworks and the house have all gone now, built over with council and private housing & a school.
red mail Brickworks at Earlswood Common - (Earlswood - Surrey)
William BROWN and Sons ran a brickworks at New Pond in the South West corner of Earlswood Common. The yard was adjacent to the fishing and boating lakes. For a time, Frank WARNE was the manager of the brickworks. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers the brickworks, who knows of buildings put up with Brown's bricks, or, even better, has photographs of the brickworks and of the Earlswood Pottery at Mackrells.

red mail De Wight family - (East Ewell - Surrey)
When I received the 1938 death certificate for my g.grandfather Elijah Jackson I was surprised to find that his death was registered in Ewell, not by his Jackson offspring as I expected, but by one D. De Wight who was, it seems, his stepdaughter. I have been unable to find De Wight in any of the civil registrations in Surrey for the relevant period. It is an uncommon name. Are there any De Wights out there? Can anyone help me out here? I'd be so grateful!

W.I. Hall C 1943 Youth Club old members ? - (East Horsley - Surrey)
Four damp and dejected teenagers thought the least we can do is try to put on a dance. Bit by bit it grew as the W.I. Hall was booked and The Night Hawks were persuaded to dress as pirates as that was the theme of our first dance in aid of the Red Cross.A nautical backcloth was kindly supplied by a Mr. Goodman who lived near the Hall. .Encouraged by our success, the second dance, also for the Red Cross, was of a more sophisticated design, blackout material lined the stage with three bands of cartridge paper from left to right, the backdrop, a cutout view of our idea of New York. From that simple effort of our trying entertain ourselves developed quite a good youth club, which went on for many years. Where are those who were in at the start? Do you remember them? People such as Eric Wells.Navy, later a publican. Manfred Gorlin. later a timber merchant. Cecily Toon art student.played violin, lived in Rentorre? on Leatherhead road, married Denny of the Night Hawks. Moira West of Manor Close, married Edred Tims also of Manor Close.
