red mail LONGHURST, Charles Edmund/Edward
My great-grandfather, born 1870 in Redhill, Surrey. Parents were James and Sarah. Found in the 1901 Census in West Ham, Essex with wife Ellen Matilda nee Carey, and both daughters, listed as a Luggage Porter for the railway. By 1911 the girls were living in a Union Home, Ellen was living in the home of a widowed railway man with 3 small sons, and a number of Charles Longhursts are living in various parts of the country. He is NOT the one in Reigate Workhouse who died there in 1913. Several men with that name died in 1916 in WWI France - don't know if he could be one of them. Also, a "CE Longhurst" sailed from Liverpool on the Victorian for Halifax or St John, NB April 14, 1911. Listed as "Deceased" on his daughter Edith's marriage on March 24th, 1923. I did not know my grandmother very well, and my mother did not grow up with her, so I have no knowledge of this side of my family except this information. I haven't yet been able to check Canadian records. Any thoughts on places to find further info, please?
