Blomfield/Bloomfield family in the 1871 census
In the 1871 census George and Eliza Bloomfield were living with their daughter Alice at Netherlands, Merstham. George was shown as a General Labourer. The family were originally from Suffolk and suddenly appeared in Surrey for this census and then disappeared. So far, George and Eliza (nee Flatman/Flatt) have not been detected anywhere else. Alice on the other hand, appears in East London and marries William Dansey in 1876. The move from Suffolk to Surrey does not make any sense at the moment, plus the disappearance from Census and Parish records after 1871 is puzzling. Can anyone point out why they would have made these moves please? Thanks in advance.

red mail WORTLEY and BULLIS
Has anyone information on the above family? Jonathan Wortley was a shoemaker in Merstham,as were at least two of his sons, until around 1875. Jonathan and his 'wife' Frances or Fanny had 12 children, the first Elizabeth was 'base born' but Jonathan was named as the alleged father. I can find no record of their marriage. There seems to be no record of Jonathan or Fanny in Merstham before 1783, (the first childs baptism). Where did they come from? I have a book that belonged to Jonathan dated 1813 - I do wonder where he was educated. Any help or information would be most welcome. Many thanks Caroline

red mail A Coker - Motor Engineer
I am trying to find details on my grandfather Arthur George Coker and his wife Rosa Mary Coker (nee Holloway) who ran a small garage on the High Street at Merstham in the late 1920's -30's. Any old photographs showing the garage, or details of other members of the family who might have lived in the Merstham area would be useful. My father Arthur Gordon Coker was born in 1921 when the family were still in Fulham, London, but I have a photo of my dad at the garage c.1930 so presumably they had moved there by then. I have little information on my father's side of the family so any information on where they might have lived in Merstham would help. Regards, Peter
