Violet Family
I am researching the Violet family who lived in Camberwell Lane and Coldharbour Lane in Brixton. My 4x great grandparents - Thomas Violet (1767-1850, he died at 19 Camberwell Lane) married Ann Piggot (1771-1851). Their son William (1814-1887, lived at 419 Coldharbour Lane) married Jane Barden (1830-1891). William and Jane's son George Thomas Violet (1856-1915, my gt gt grandfather) changed his surname to Blake. Any information will be gratefully received.

My great grandparents James & Emily Baker lived in 101 Mayal Road,Brixton, also in the house was their daughter Helen (Nellie) who was married to Henry Wallis. James and Emily (nee Markwick) moved up to London from Brighton, where Emily was born. James was born Barking, Essex. Across the road at 109 lived their son William Baker and his family. If anyone knows of this family or has any information I would very much like to hear.

I'm trying to find more on G Buchanan, who according to the 1901 census was born in Brixton, Surrey about 1882. In 1901, he was in the First Home Counties Reserve, Regiment and Fifth Royal Irish Regiment based at the Aldershot Military in Stanhope and Wellington Lines, Aldershot St Michael, Hampshire. I'm completely unable to find his birth record, or anything on the 1891 or 1911 censuses. Can anyone help me?

On 1881 census he was living at 315 cold Harbour Lane with his second wife Emily (nee Philbey), son Samuel Alexander from his first marriage and son Charles Abraham from his marriage to Emily. I have found Abraham's daughters (from his first marriage) Agnes (married John Mason) and Louisa (married William Cockerill), but cannot find Abrahm or Samuel after 1881. Lived in mansion buildings a Vassall Road Brixton in later years and died in Lambeth in 1957. Worked at London Lyceum at the time of the famous Melvilles and travelled to America and South Africa. He was married to Katie Barrett a dancer and they had two children Katie Nellie and Thomas Charles born in 1900 and 1903 respectively.

Would like to find out about John Rhodes Wilson. I can only say his wife was Mary MONNERY of the Monnerys of Southwark (b Lambeth 02/03/1854) and they had a daughter Irene M(ary?) WILSON, born Brixton abt 1879 and a son Frank H WILSON, born abt 1882,Clapham. They were apparently married 22 Dec 1877 in St Barnabas, South Kennington, Surrey but I cannot confirm this. He must have died sometime between 1881-2 and 1891 as Mary is a widow in the latter census. I cannot find his birth nor a definite entry in the 1881 census (Mary is in her father's house with children both in 1881 and 1891). Daughter Irene Mary married Frederick William SMITH(a book keeper born in Stratford/Avon abt 1879)possibly in Brentford district Dec qtr 1898 and had ason Victor A SMITH. Son Frank H was an estate agent in 1901.

George Herridge was,I believe born 1866 in Lambeth, Surrey and was the eldest son of George Herridge born 1840 in Glocester, England. Dad had a sister Margaret, and two brothers Alf and Ted. The census taken 1841 lists a Herridge family living 132 Princes Road in Lambeth, Surrey. It lists head of houshold George Herridge,stone mason, age 41 wife Mary Ann Herridge, age 35, son George Herridge, stone mason, age 15, daughter, age 13, son age 11, daughter age 10. I believe this is my ggf and ggm. If anyone has any knowledge of this family, would be most appreciative of your information.
