I am researching the Hammant family of Bermondsey. So far I have, going back using the head of family; JOSEPH HAMMANT (occupation Optician) born 1889 in Camberwell, who married ROSE SLADE in 1913. (My grandparents) His father:- JOSEPH HAMMANT,(occupation Hairdresser) born 1865 in Bermondsey, who married ROSALINDA WEHRLE (maiden name HARRISON)in 1886. (Have some info about their family, not that much though) His father:- THOMAS HAMMANT/HAMMOND (occupations Leather finisher - Water side labourer)born c1823 in Bermondsey, wife Ann Newman Burn. His father:- JOSEPH HAMMANT/HAMMOND (occupation Wood Chopper/Firewood Dealer), born c1791-1796 in Bermondsey. Wife - Anna Maria Edwards. Please get in touch if you have any information, thankyou.

They were married in Edinburgh in 1872, although James was from Bishops Stortford and Louisa was from London. They had at least the following children: Elizabeth Mary Louisa Smith, Frances Marguerita Smith, Sarah Ann Smith, Charlotte Smith, John Smith, Frederick George Smith, Charles Edwin Smith and James Smith.

Clara BRADBURY married Walter COOPER June 08 1881 in St James Church. witnesses were H. and E. Bradbury. Clara's father was Ralph an engine fitter and Walter's was Henry Pearce a house decorator. The address in Dockley road was also occupied by a sister of Clara: Eva FITT and her husband Edgar. 1881 census found children; Esther 7yrs; Edgar 5; Clara 2; and Elizabeth 1mth.
