red mail Pettet/petitt family of Wickhambrook
any details please on the Pettet family of Wickhambrook. I've gone back as far as Samuel b 1754 in Wickhambrook. He married Sarah Barret in 1786. I think his parents were James and Honor, but I can't find any more info. Many thanks Issy
red mail Cooper, Jonathan b 1843
My Great-uncle Arthur Charles Cooper, who was from a Cooper family in the Isle of Wight, was a visitor to Jonathan Cooper's family in Bury St Edmund's at the time of the 1901 Census and married one of his daughters in Q3 1902. I have been unable to find a previous connection between the two Cooper families, nor can I think of any other reason why Arthur - a provision merchants's cashier - should have found himself in Bury!

red mail Prykes Houghtons of Wickhambrook
I posted an entry in 2006 about James Pryke and Martha Houghton. I am still interested in hearing from anyone who may be descended from this couple. I now have information about the areas in Wickhambrrok and Depden that James Pryke farmed and believe that his parents may have been John Pryke of Cavendish and Lettice Smith, but I still have to confirm this. I have also traced Martha Houghton's family back three further generations and have information about other Pryke families in the Wickhambrook/Depden area. James and Martha's Pryke's children are also connected to the following families by marriage, the Fullers, Frosts, Pawseys, Hinds, Isaacsons of Gaines Hall, and Kinseys. If anyone would like any of this information, or if anyone has confirmation that John and Lettice Pryke of Cavendish are James's parents, please do not hesitate to contact me. Best wishes Sue.
red mail Illegitimate families - Cook(e)
I am trying to find out about my grandmother's family who came from Wickhambrook. My grandmother was Alice Cook(e)(born 1892 in Wickhambrook) who has no father listed on her birth certificate. Her mother is listed as Laura (Lora) Cook, born 1871. She also has no father on her birth certificate, but her baptism record lists her father as John Honeyball. Laura had 2 sisters, Maud Mary and Amelia Cook(e) - neither of these 2 have father's on their birth certificates either. Their mother was Susannah Cook(e) - born c 1846, in Wickhambrook. I am desperately seeking any information that may help me to understand how someone had 3 illigitemate children and how she would have been able to care for them. Susannah married Christopher Garwood in later life and helped to care for my grandmother, Alice. Alice is listed in the 1901 census as living with Susannah and her husband in Church End Wickhambrook. Susannah had previously lived in Mouse Row. Has anyone got any information about this family of illegitimate daughters, or how Susannah could have coped raising the 3 girls by herself? I can't find much info on Maud Mary beyond 1881 census when she was 7 - I don't know if she died young - I haven't found any death records either.

I am descended from James PRYKE (born c. 1777) and his wife Martha HOUGHTON. Their daughter Adeliza Pryke (born 1821) who married Joseph Henry SIMPSON is my 2 Greats Grandmother. I am interested in hearing from anyone researching these surnames. James Pryke farmed in Ashfield Green, but I do not know exactly where, as the censuses do not give the name of the farm. (James died in 1846 and the farm was then inherited by his son John Houghton Pryke). Does anyone with local knowledge know where James's farm was? Is there anywhere in the village today called Pryke's farm? Any help anyone is able to give me will be gratefully received. Thanks Sue.
