red mail Who's your daddy?
My great-grandfather was George Edward Cole, son of Edward Cole and possibly from Dallinghoo Hall near Dallinghoo in Suffolk. GG George is presumed born in 1828 and emigrated to Australia where he married, dying in 1905 in New South Wales. There is reason to believe that George had a brother named Henry and sisters named Margaret and Phoebe. This sounds reasonable because George had daughters named Margaret and Phoebe. Phoebe the second died around 1900/1901 but Margaret II died in 1953 and is still fondly remembered, if not clearly, by several great-nephews and nieces. The general consensus among the 'greats' is that her like is seldom made today. If anyone has any knowledge of the Suffolk lot, we'd be delighted to have the information.
My great grandfather was Andrew Blake, b. Pettistree 1827, married (1) Frances Plant, 1853 (2) Matilda Edbrooke 1868. Children (1) Arthur b.1854, Sarah Ann b.c1856, d.1863, Charles b.1858, Henry b.1860, James b.c1863 (2) Alice Fanny b.1869,Matilda Mary b.1870, Andrew william (Will)b.1873 and Frank (my grandfather) b. 1876. Andrew took over the 'Dallinghoo Works' in 1857 and had served apprenticeships as carpenter/wheelwright and machinist, the latter at Ransomes. He ran the business until 1904, when he retired and handed the business over to Frank, dying at the Old Hall, Dallinghoo on 9/3/1922, at the age of 94.Of the children, Arthur was born in Ipswich, but all the others were born in Dallinghoo. Any further information on this family will be appreciated. David
Any information on the Blagdon family of Dallingoo would be welcome. Jane Blagdon married Stephen Bloomfield in 1732
