He came to England from Baden in Germany in 1851.To find out more about him we need to know his precise birthplace. We do not know when he married Sarah exactly but by 1861 they lived in London and had children August, Lui, Johanna, Julia, Fritz and Albert. The girls died soon after birth.Fritz married Catherine Handley and their children were Fritz Leo, Rudolph Alfred, Frances Rhoda, Aubrey and Frank. Rudolph was my husband's father. We are researching our family history and would be grateful for any information.
red mail Hogg Mackusick
My grandmother, Gwendolyn Mackusick, never spoke of her origins or Hogg relatives. I have found that she was born Gwendolyn Fane Hogg, with a twin, Margarite Fane Hogg at 39 Cemetery Road in 1884; their mother is recorded as Margaret Hogg, with no father on the birth certificate. Margarite apparently stayed on with her grandmother at Cemetery Rd but Gwendolyn was fostered/?adopted by Howard Mackusick (an American) and Louisa Mackusick nee Hogg, who married when she was four. I should like to find why the twins were separated and how Gwendoline came to brought up by the Mackusicks in Surrey.
red mail Frank Taylor, Baker, 36 Cannon Street
Frank Taylor was my grandfather. He was born in Marks Tey in Essex in 1893 and trained as a baker prior to entering the army in 1915. He married Gladys Morgan in Colchester in 1923, but before doing so he had set up as a baker working for himself in Bury St Edmunds. In 1922 he was at 22 Garland Street and according to the electoral register was still there with Gwladys Morgan(as she preferred it spelt) in 1930. In the register of 1934 they are living at 117 Queen's Road. By 1936 they had moved to Norwood in South London. The puzzle is that I have a great deal of correspondence and the personal memories of both my late mother and late uncle who were born to Frank and Gwladys in 1925 and 1927 respectively in Bury St Edmunds. The address that is consistently present throughout is 36 Cannon Street; my uncle even visited it shortly before his death in 2005. I have spoken with the current owner of 37 and have traced the numbering of, what had been originally Short Brackland and later became, Cannon Street and conclude that 36 were sizeable premises that had been used for a variety of purposes. In 1930 Arthur King is shown in the local street directory as having a shop at 36 Cannon Street and again in 1935 Arthur Cyril King is a shop-keeper at 36 Cannon Sreet, yet in the electoral roll of 1925 , published on 15 April 1925, Frank and Gwladys are shown as living at 36 Cannon Street. In the OS map of 1906 the building that I believe to be 36 was shown as a builders yard. My mother remembered that she accompanied her dad on his horse drawn bakers' delivery cart when he was delivering to his customers - the 'builder's yard' would have provided adequate space for horses, cart and bakery. The shop may have been attached or separate or may have traded independently. Does anyone know of the development of 36 Cannon street (which no longer exists) or does anyone have any knowledge or connection with Frank Taylor, Gwladys Morgan Taylor, Maureen Morgan Taylor, David John Taylor or Daphne Morgan Taylor. Gwladys was a member of the Garland Street Baptist Chapel and the children attended too. The girls were members of the Girls Brigade and I have ephemera of the 4th Mid-Suffolk Life Boys that my unlce belonged to (and later the Boys Brigade Company too). I believe that Maureen attended the Feoffment School and flourished as a pupil, David attended, as did my mother, Daphne, who failed to live up to her sister's reputation as a scholar. Any ideas?
red mail Looking for Info on Ellen Jacobs
I wonder if you could help please? I am looking for information on my great great grandmother Ellen Jacobs born in Bury St Edmunds C1857. I have recently discovered the baptism in 1780 of my 3g.grandmother, Elizabeth Crow, the daughter of John and Esther Crow at St James', Bury St Edmunds. Elizabeth was married to John Bucknall Cooper, a book-keeper. The couple were living in Liverpool and had at least 6 children, probably all born in Liverpool. red mail Wade Family
James Wade (1779 possible) married Rose ? (1784 G/Yarm) 1804 Gt Yarmouth. He was a guard at a factory. Children: Susanna, Jemima, Hanna Crisp, Eliza Mary, Eliza Reeve, Hannah O. The Wade & Reeve families seem to have a close history, with Eliza having Reeve as a middle name & Jemima later marrying James William Reeve in Kent. The middle name of Crisp appears in both families & Hannah runs in both. Could Rose’s surname have been Crisp? James birth year is abt 1779 & he died 31 Jan 1861 which would make him 82, a similar age to Rose when she died. However, the DC says his age was 46 but his occupation, address & the informant all tie in to the above family. Seeking any information.

red mail William Flynn/wife Lydia Metcalfe, 2nd wife Charlotte Taylor Hore
My g-g-grandfather was William Flynn, born abt 1921 in Old Luce, Wigtownshire, Scotland. The last confirmed 'sighting' is his marriage to Lydia Metcalfe (father William) 10/6/1852, St. James's, Bury St Edmunds. I think that Lydia died in 1953 Q2 in Bury St Edmunds, and by the 1861 census their son William Metcalfe Flynn was living with his grandparents in Scotland. It seems he re-married to a Charlotte Taylor Hore 16/8/1855 in Ippollitts (in/near Hitchin), Hertford, England, and they returned to Bury after the marriage. He started work as a mason in Scotland 1841, by 1852 he was a travelling tea dealer, and on his son's marriage certificate 6th December 1878 he was listed as 'draper (deceased)'. It seems that his second wife continued to trade as Mrs Charlotte Taylor Flynn as a stationer/tea/fancy goods dealer at 13 Churchgate Street, Bury St Edmunds. I think he died sometime between 1855 & 1864 & would be grateful for any information about his death, or any other info about the tea/stationery/drapery trade in Bury during this period. Thanks in advance Graeme PS I have 3 trade listings; White's directory 1855; Drapers and travelling tea dealers 68 Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds Wm Fynn Harrod's Suffolk 1864; Mrs Charlotte Flynn Stationer And Tea Dealer 13 Churchgate St Bury St Edmunds Post Office Directory 1865; Mrs Charlotte Taylor Flynn Fancy Repository 13 Churchgate St. Bury St Edmunds.
