red mail Allison of Polmont & Muiravonside
I'm trying to trace the origins of my grand father John Allison born 17.05.93 at South Craigs Polmont, and his predecessors. As well as this Allison in particular, i'm interested in the many Allisons to be found in and around Polmont, and the wider stirlingshire environs. We have always believed that the Allisons came down from 'the highlands' during the clearances times, so any pointers about this would be great!! As it happens i have some evidence that my John, was actually of irish origin -any info please!

Seeking information on the Walker family. George Walker (1 July 1801 - 12 Sept 1875) was the son of James Walker and Ann nee Cunningham. He married Christina Plenderleith (27 Jan 1803-?) the daughter of William Plenderleith and Mary nee Leetch, on 12 August 1825 at Polmont Stirling. George was a railway guard in the 1841 & 1851 census living at Bennetstone with his wife and family. The children were- William (1829-?) Mary (1832-?) George Cunningham Dec 1837-12 July 1905) and Thomas Plenderleith (1843-?). In the 1861 census George was still a railway guard and living at Court Street Haddington with Christina and his 17 year old son Thomas, a miller's clerk. George Cunningham (my GGgrandfather) was by then an engine wright living at South Shields County Durham. He later emigrated to Australia. Any information on the family will be appreciated.
