Stevenson & Mann in Kilsyth. What connection?
I have an Elizabeth Stevenson, born 1785 in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire who married a John Morrison. She died in 1847 in Kilsyth. Her first child was a daughter, Marion Morrison who married a Clark, and who died in New Zealand in 1892. On her death certificate the name MANN is added after her maiden name - "Name of Maiden Surname of Mother: Elizabeth Morrison, formerly MANN." Her youngest brother (John Mann Morrison, 1823) and sister (Margaret Mann Morrison, 1827) also have some connection with the name MANN. Can anyone make a connection between Stevenson and Mann in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire in the late 1700s-early 1800s?? Thanks. Noel

red mail McFarlane Wilson McFarlane Robertson
My paternal grandfather Duncan McFarlane was an Evangelist but bound to the British Isles. He was the son of Jake McFarlane (originally from Linlithgow) and Janet (Wilson). I descend from Duncan McFarlane's second marriage which was to Agnes Robertson (from Anniesland, Glasgow). Duncan McFarlane was born in 1875 over the wee grocers shop in Kilsyth. One of 8 children, they moved when they were all still children, out of town to the cottage on Banton Loch by the Colzium Estate. Back then, they called the cottage "The Dam", latterly it was more often referred to as Lochside Cottage. Jake McFarlane was a boot maker and the barn by the cottage was his shop. Duncan's brother Bill, went to Canada and sang gospel on the radio. Alec went to South Africa(?). Another went to Australia I think(?) Jenny, the one sister, purchased the cottage when her parents passed away and lived there until she died. Her brother "John O' the Loch (on account of having been crowned a hero for saving two boys from drowning in the loch) married and lived all his days in Kilsyth, helping Jenny with the upkeep of the cottage. Jimmy went to London and opened a knitwear factory in Wandsworth called 'Colzium Knitwear' (like the estate). Any overseas stories/links to this lineage??
