William (William Henry) Reed
Can anyone find any evidence of a marriage between William (William Henry) Reed and Elizabeth Mather probably in the 1850s. William, an engraver, was born in London but travelled around the country a good deal in his younger years; Elizabeth appears to come from Ashton-in-Makerfield. On the birth certificates of two children (born in Nottingham and Stoke-on-Trent) the couple appear to be married. No birth certificates for two other children (born in Yorkshire and possibly Durham) appear to exist.

red mail John William TAYLOR - born Walsall c. 1861
John William TAYLOR, stated birthplace: Walsall, Staffs, 1861, was the father of my maternal grandmother's five illegitimate children (including my late mother, who was born at Simon's Town, South Africa, in 1907) Taylor (given age 40 on the 1901 census) who at the time had a 17 year old son, (also called John)formed a relationship with my 20 year old grandmother which lasted from 1901 to 1909. On the latter date he vanished from the scene, abandoning my grandmother and the children and was never heard of from that day onwards. He worked as a locomotive engine driver and in 1905 he obtained employment with the Sir John Jackson Engineering Company, who were contracted to build the naval docks at Simon's Town - which accounts for his temporary emigration to that country later that year with my grandmother and the children. In 1909 their relationship was disolved. Enquiries reveal that Taylor allegedy threatened to murder my grandmother which resulted in her fleeing the family home and taking refuge with the Salvation Army at Cape Town, before being repatriated with her family in the UK. In spite of extensive research over the past 5 months, I have been unable to unearth any definite information about John William Taylor, other than his own entry on the 1901 census, and references to him by name as being the father of his children on the respective birth certificates of the said offspring. So, did you have a grandfather or great-grandfather called John William TAYLOR who was born around 1861, who worked as an engine driver in South Africa for John Jackson between 1905 and 1909? If so, do let me know, please.
