Nellie Free & Lucy Stanton
Wondered if anyone could help. Nellie Free was born in 1917 in West Bromwich. Her mother was Lucy Free. Nellie was illigitimate. There were three brothers born prior to Nellie : Samuel b: 1911, William Henry b: 1912, Leonard b: 1915. Lucy's father (Samuel Stanton b: 1862/3) lived at 43 Barton Street, West Brom in 1911, and Nellie was born at 3 Bilhay Street, West Brom 4.1.1917. I think that 9 years later Lucy remarried to a Mr William Murphy in Liverpool, but I can't find what happened to Nellie. The three brothers and Nellie and Lucy all ended up in the West Brom Workhouse and I know the boys were fostered out, but I don't know anything of Nellie. Any Ideas at all? Were there any local adoption or fostering organisations around in West Brom at that time? I know that the brothers were fostered out via the War Commission, as their father William Henry b: 1880, died in the first world war in 1915. Is there any way of obtaining these records from the War Commission? Thanks, Pam
