red mail RICHARD HALL
Daniel Hall (born c1812) emigrated from Stockport, Cheshire to South Australia in 1839. He worked as a farmer, surveyor, gold seeker and teamster until his death in 1875 at Mern Merna, northern South Australia. Daniel Hall arrived in South Australia on 29/12/1839 with wife Alice on the barque 'Delhi' and was accompanied by two young children, a girl and a boy, William. He was also accompanied by his brother Hugh and his wife Hannah. Daniel was listed as a weaver and joiner from Great Portwood Street, Stockport, England and was aged 27 years. Hugh was listed as a tailor, from the same address, was aged 29 years and of the Roman Catholic religion. It seems that a third brother or cousin Richard from Leek, Staffordshire followed Daniel and Hugh to SA in 1853. Richard (1815-1887) was a cordwainer and was accompanied to Australia by his wife Ellenor (born c1820) and children Richard (b 31.3.1848), Jane (b 6.6.1850) and James Henry Hall (b 1852). The three Halls jointly owned property in SA. If anyone has any information on the Halls (both pre and post emigration) or likely sources of information, it would be greatly appreciated. I am very keen to establish the relationship between Richard and the two brothers Daniel and Hugh. Did they leave brothers or sisters behind? Were they all born in Leek? I can supply much info on their exploits in Australia.
