red mail Barlow family
Looking for Barlow family who lived in York street, Hanley
I'm looking for information on a Lydia Pickin. I know she was born in about 1813 and died around 1891. In 1841 she's listed on the census as single and the head of the house. She appears again on the 1881 census as living at 18 North Street, Hanley, Stoke upon Trent. She lists herself as a widower but I can't find any evidence of a marriage. She also has a daughter living with her which she lists at Bithar, born in 1857. Lydia also lists grandchildren as Charles born 1866, Emma born 1874, Martha E. born 1876 and Sarah A. born 1877. She also has boarders John Bourne and Ellen Clewes. Can anyone tell me anything more about this family or their address in 1881. Thanks for reading and in anticipation of your reply.

red mail DEAN Thomas & Hannah (Hanley, Lancaster, Liverpool, Burnley & Upholland)
The following is extracted from the 1881 census in regards to Thomas & Hannah Dean - my paternal great grand-parents. The entry for Herbert Arthur (paternal grandfather) is missing - he was born in Bolton in 1886! At this point I think I need to continue to trace the family of Thomas Dean around HANLEY, Staffordshire in the early c.19th and trace 'Hannah' of LANCASTER, Lancashire (abt.1853). There is a reference for Thomas (I think) at Stoke on Trent XVII, 193 (poss. 198). Judging by the dates, I think I am looking for a wedding around 1872-1873 - and possibly a shotgun?? (Surprising Thomas made it beyond 1872!) b.1844, Hanley: Dean Thomas 37 Head Police Constable Hanley, Staffordshire census locn: Roby Mill, Upholland, Lancashire; b.1853, Lancaster: Dean Hannah 28 Wife Lancaster, Lancashire census locn: Roby Mill, Upholland, Lancashire; b.1872, Liverpool: Dean Thomas H J 9 Son Scholar Liverpool, Lancashire census locn: Roby Mill, Upholland, Lancashire; b.1875, Burnley: Dean Elizabeth 6 Daughter Scholar Burnley, Lancashire census locn: Roby Mill, Upholland, Lancashire; b.1879, Burnley: Dean Annie Isabell 2 Daughter Burnley, Lancashire census locn: Roby Mill, Upholland, Lancashire; b.1880, Upholland: Dean John William 5 M Son Upholland, census locn: Lancashire Roby Mill, Upholland, Lancashire; With this number of children - I suspect there will be others out there researching the same Thomas & Hannah Dean! Would love to hear from you, or anyone else who has information about this family. Best wishes and happy searching.

I am researching my Lees or Leese family ancestors in Hanley, Shelton, Fenton areas. My great grandfather was Archibald Lees, born in Hanley on 8 Apr 1844. Address or place on marriage was Lane End. His first marriage was to Charlotte Fletcher. He then moved to Worcester for 22 years to work in Worcester Porcelain. His 3rd wife was Sarah Ellen Leese, formerly Hall. They had a son, Fred Leese born 4th Feb 1887 at Happy Land, Worcester, where his father was a china gilder. He and his father returned to the potteries where Archibald on 3 February 1914 died at 10 Temple Street, Fenton. Fred Leese was in attendance. The father of Archibald, also called Archibald, was born about 1823, he married in Stoke on Trent on 3 Mar 1844 to Elizabeth Corbishley and died in Hanley on 1 Mar 1873. His father (my great great great grandfather)William Lees (or Leese?) was born about 1788 and he died in Hanley on 21 Dec 1844. Now I have found a potterÂ’s mark with 'William Lees & Sons' and am wondering if it is the same William. All these Lees's or Leese's were potters or china gilders and descendants of the family must still be living in Hanley/Stoke area. I would be very grateful if any of them would make contact with me. The surname was changed bewteen Lees and Leese at various times! But my own grandfather, Colin, seems to have changed it to Lees. Any information or contact please. red mail David Jones
was my gt grandfather living at times in Meadow St, Cobden St, Mount St and Bold St. He married Elizabeth Keeling (parents Stephen Keeling and Eliza Bevington). His father was John Jones and I believe he had a sister Jane - they moved to Hanley from Mold, Flintshire. Rumour in our family is that David and Elizabeth had 17 children although only three of them lived to grow up. We didn't know any names of other possible children but I have with some help found quite a few of them though some still remain a mystery. David sailed to Australia on 21 April 1886 on the Duke of Argyll but returned quite quickly - we don't know when nor how he funded the journeys. He moved with his family to Salford sometime after 1895 but returned in the early 1900s - his wife died in 1901 in Salford so I'm guessing it might have been soon after that. Does anybody know anything more about this family, please? Many thanks. Bev

red mail Looking for the Beech Family in Hanley.
I am trying to trace my mothers family. I think my grandfathers name was William and my grandmothers name was Ellen. My mother (Elsie) had 2 brothers William and Reginald and a sister Millicent. I can remember some connection with the Fox family. I know my grandparents lived in Tarleton Road Hanley, both died in the 1960's I think. I would love to hear from anyone who could help me trace these lost relations. I know that I have relations out there somewhere. We emigrated to Australia in 1955 and all contact has been lost with them.

red mail Dougherty/Doherty and Lovatt/Lovat/ Moumford/Mumford familieys
Does anyone have any information regarding Mark Dougherty/Doherty born in Manchester around 1806. I have him marrying Hannah Moumford in 1828 in Stoke on Trent. He then appears on the 1851 census at 21 Bow street (I assume in Stoke/hanley) with his wife and 2 daughters (this time the spelling is Doherty). His daughters are Elizabeth (born circa 1840 and Tamar born circa 1830). He then appears on the 1861 census still at 21 Bow Street with his wife Hannah and his sister in Law Mary Johnson. Elizabeth Doherty (daughter born circa 1840) marries Henry Lovatt (born Lawton Cheshire circa 1838 - fathers name John)in 1860 at Northwood Holy Trinity Church in Hanley Tamar Doherty (daughter) married Samuel Arnett before 1851 as her husband also appears on the census record. I also have the following information on Elizabeth's marriage and children. I would love to find out more information on her husband or her mother. Henry and Elizabeth had 5 children: all born Stoke on Trent and baptized in Hanley Anson Lovatt Born March 1861- died 17/11/1897 Glasgow George Lovatt Born March 1868- died 12/1/1957 Glasgow Martha Elizabeth Lovatt Born June 1870 Sarah Ann Lovatt Born 1874- Died 27/4/1941 Glasgow I think Henry died before 1881 as at this time Elizabeth had moved with the children to Glasgow where she married to Alexander Little in 1881. Any information or tips about how I can get any further with this please send me a mail as I am completely at a loss regarding how I should proceed further. Thanks Pamela
