red mail Butler Foster Stokes families
Richard L Butler lives close to Halifax, Nova Scotia. I am researching the BUTLER, FOSTER and STOKES families of England; particularly Staffordshire. My great-grandfather William Butler was born on May 9 1818 in England. He departed England between 1845 and 1851 and was a resident of Nova Scotia by March, 1851. There were at least 3 William Butlers christened in Staffordshire in 1818 that I have been able to find. William married Mary Ann Stokes and they had 11 children. One son was named George Foster Butler and their first daughter was named Ellen. I have noted a Mary Ann Stokes aged 10 living in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire with on Ellen Foster on the 1841 census. There is a distinct possibility William Butler was married prior to his marriage to Mary Ann. Areas of interest are Darlaston and Burton Upon Trent in Staffordshire. Please response if you have any information about these families.
