William Lear & Sarah Ann Greatrex
William Lear & Sarah Ann Greatrex were married in Armitage, 28th May 1874, but I have no record of their Fathers - on the marriage certificate or anywhere else. I have so far seen the 1871 census for them but they are both working as servants for other families. It is their Fathers & Mothers that I am after. There is some confusion here - there is a William Lear mentioned on freebmd born in an area of Stoke but I cannot be sure it is him. The same name appears on the IGI as being baptised there but Williams' birth place is different on censusses - Kings Bromley, Armitage & Handsacre are the places mentioned. As for Sarah, there is a christening date for her that took place in March 1850 in St Michaels Church in Lichfield. The Mothers' name does not match up with those that someone gave me on a copy of the 1861 census record - I forget the names but it leaves the parentage of this person, according to records that I have seen, uncertain. If anyone can conjure up some definite or convincing enough information on William & Sarah, please get in touch. I would be most glad and grateful!

red mail Leigh
My grandfather John LEIGH was born in Armitage in 1879. His family lived at Bridge Farm and later in 1887 apparently built Jubilee Terrace on New Road where my great grandmother Annie (Ann Eliza) LEIGH nee DISSINGTON lived until 1935. All the LEIGHs in Armitage in the 1881 census are family of mine with one exception. Is anyone out there descended from the Armitage LEIGHs or related families such as WARNER, PLIMLEY, BROWNING, WEBB, VALLANCE, HUGHES, COXON, MORECROFT, HARRAT, CORNWELL, HALL,WRAITHMELL, ...
