red mail Chant/Fane/Taylor/Hansford/Stanton/Comer
I could add a lot more names as, like all such villages, 'scratch one and they all bleed', there is so much intermarrying. Caroline Albertina FANE 1842-1915 was my great grandmother. I don't know of a Fane line in the village which is not connected.Sarah HANSFORD 1816-1905 married Joseph TAYLOR 1819-1889. They ran the 'Fleur de Lis'. Joseph died and Sarah's niece Elizabeth Mary STANTON 1860-1949 took over first as manageress then as innkeeper on Sarah's retirement. Elizabeth was my grandmother. She married Herbert Alfred CHANT 1863-1943. I think my Chant family left the village about 1920. I should be pleased to learn more about the various families mentioned and about the COMERs as they seem to be one of the families most intertwined withmine.
