I am interested in the life and family of John Hillman, born 27 Nov 1814 in Rode, son of a man of the same name born in Exeter on 10 Feb 1789. John junior emigrated to Guernsey and died there on 10 Jan 1865. He had a son John Henry Hillman born 16 Oct 1836 whose daughter Isabella Gertrude Hillman married my great grandfather Charles Thomas Andrews of Southampton.

LEONARD (1759),DANIEL (1762), JOHN, RICHARD (c1785) come from Corsley, Laverstock, Chapmanslade area of Wiltshire/Somerset. LEONARD was a Blacksmith and later Inn Keeper moving to live near Salisbury but upon death in 1838 he was buried at Corsley. Married REBECCA SLADE nee Payne/Paine (widow of John Slade, Blacksmith) no known children. A bpt. for a LEONARD at Corsley 1759 fits with age at death. Any information on origns of LEONARD and a brother JOHN would be much appreciated.

I believe they had 7 children the first child died and then they had 3 boys and 3 girls. Ethel Rose born 21 June 1883 married ??? I have written some 30 odd booklets on various subjects concerning Rode from the 1600s to the 1940s and have much more material to write.

James Tiley was a blacksmith in Rode (then known as Road) during the first half of the 19th century. He and his wife Elizabeth had a number of sons who appear to have worked as blacksmiths or engineers in Bradford-on-Avon and Trowbridge. A daughter,Ellen, also worked in Bradford-on-Avon and married a local blacksmith/engineer George Milsom. I would like to hear from anyone knowing of this family.
