red mail Looking for SLADES in North Curry area
I am looking for Slade decendants from North Curry and surrounding villages (West Hatch, Hatch Beauchamp) My GGG Grandfather was WILLIAM SLADE born in North Curry C.1800 - He married Priscilla SWEETING on Jan 13th 1824 in West Hatch. They had 9 children: Harriet, Samuel (my GG Grandfather b.1827) Elizabeth, Uriah, Jane, Sarah, Julia, Philip & Jonas. I have not been able to progress back from William as his baptism isn't in the North Curry register. One of the witnesses at his marriage to Priscilla was ELIZA TUCKER - I think she may be a clue to finding William's parents as a MARY Tucker married a man called Thomas SLADE in North Curry in 1824 (that info is from the post of another Curious Fox member who posted a msg in 2007 here that leads me to believe there is a connection) Please email me if any of the above rings even the smallest hint of a bell.

red mail George william Vile
Trying to trace anyone who remembers the family who lived in a cottage on the cross roads of Borough Post and Windmill Hill, North Curry. William George Vile married Ellen Symes in 1906 at Taunton registary office. He was a farm labourer and she a domestic servant. Williams father was George Vile and he was a road contractor and Ellens father was Charles symes who was deceased at time of their marriage (He had been a farm labourer.)In 1908 a child was born called Ellen Mabel who died young. Other children born there were Fred, Christine, Mary and Cecil (who were twins). Mary is my mother in law and we have a picture of her with her brother and sister standing at the front of the cottage when she was about 3 or 4 yrs old. If anyone out there remembers anything to do with these people of even remembers the cottage (which was pulled down before the war) get in touch, please. Thank you.

red mail James Burrows m Rachel Clouter - 19 April 1797
I'm on the Burrows trail. I've managed to get back as far as James Burrows who married Rachel Clouter on 19 April 1797 at North Curry, Somerset. I do not have birthdates or details of parents for either James or Rachel. I'm located 3 children via 1841 and subsequent cencus (although there may have been more?) - they are John (c 1799 - ?), James (c1805-1896), and Rachel (c1816 - ?). James (junior) and John were both shoemakers. James relocated to Stoke St Gregory to ply his trade during his working life before returning to North Curry in later life. I suppose there is a limit to the numver of shoemakers that a village can sustain. I don't know if this was also the profession of James senior. If so I suppose it is possible that his birth place might have been a neighbouring village rather than North Curry. Any info on James Burrows senior and/or Rachel Clouter or of the Burrows in North Curry/Stoke St Gregory will be gratefully received.
