I am trying to find an entry in a register for the marriage of John Hensley from Luccombe, Somerset. He was born in 1772 in Luccombe to John Hensley (1740-1809) and Phillis Wey (1747-1833). In 1803 his daughter (and only child that I can find) Phillis was baptised on 24 July 1803 at Luccombe. In the baptismal register it has John/Elizabeth" as her parents. The earliest John could have married would have been 1788. I have searched from that date until after the birth of Phillis but can find no record of a marriage for him in the surrounding areas. I did find a marriage register entry for a John Hensley and Elizabeth Williams 13 Jul 1802 at St John the Baptist, Bristol. This may be him but I am not sure. John was a shoemaker and in 1836 in a inquest into his death it is noted that he was crippled and walked with two sticks. John died after having several drinks and deciding to walk home, he died on Dunkery Hill (Dunkery Beacon)! I have tried various parish registers without success. If anyone has any information on John please contract me. Thank you

A number of my ancestors came from Luccombe - a truly beautiful part of Somerset, and well worth a visit. My WAY ancestors date back to Robert WAY, b. 1717 at Luccombe, who married Phyllis DARCH at Luccombe in 1745. Phyllis DARCH was the daughter of James DARCH and Joan HAMOT, who were married in 1718 at Luccombe. Another name with Luccombe associations is that of HENSLEY. I have a John HENSLEY marrying Phyllis WAY at Luccombe in 1771. I'm happy to share information with other researchers.
