Researching Biggs family of Leigh on Mendip, Somerset. Got back to following: Andrew Biggs, bp, about 1774, Leigh. Married Priscilla Williams 9th August 1814, Leigh. Children: John (1815); William (1819, Mells); James (1824, Mells); Mary (1816, Mells). Andrew died in a workhouse in Frome in 1846, and is buried in a pauper's grave in Leigh. He was the son of James Biggs and Charity Hancock. James was born in Leigh in 1761, and died 1842. James was the son of John Biggs (c. 1733, Leigh) and Ann Banns. In turn, John was the son of Philip Biggs and Eliza Rawles. Philip was born in 1705, Babington, possibly the son of another John Biggs.

I am looking for any information about the family of Elias Lane who was resident in Leight upon Mendip in 1851. Also any information on Hester Matilda Lane 1846 who also lived in Leigh upon Medip at the same time. Does anyone know of a family link?

Looking for ancestors of William Spears born 1769-70 who, when joining the independent company of the 11th Regiment of Foot on 5 January 1792, gave his birthplace as Lye (sic - it has obviously been spelt phonetically) Somerset. He left England in 1800 and arrived in NSW in 1801. He never returned to England.
SQUANCE alias GEORGE
Can anyone help explain the alias surnames of my ancestor Nathaniel SQUANCE alias GEORGE, which are shown in the notes of the parish records on the christening of his daughters Sarah and Elizabeth GEORGE? The family appears as GEORGE in 1841,1871 and 1881 but as SQUANCE in 1851 and 1861 censuses. Nathaniel GEORGE(1802-1884 Leigh upon Mendip) was an agricultural labourer and married Mary Ann WOOLLEY 25 Nov 1827.

My ancestor, Farnham Flower was born 1795 in Leigh on Mendip. His parents were John Flower and Martha ? I am stuck here as I can't find a marriage. Farnham's siblings were Henry (1796 - 1863), George (1799 - 1818), Paidge (1802 - 1866), William (1806 - 1884) and Jane (1809 - ?) Apart from Jane, they all moved to the east end of London, and became lightermen, licensed victuallers and contractors. Any info gratefully accepted.

I am seeking proof of birth of William TUDGAY b.1777 in Leigh Upon Mendip,Somerset. He married Sarah GEORGE 17 August 1800 in same place and he died 27th May 1824 in Kilmersdon,Somerset.
