red mail William Row cordwainer
William ROW, a cordwainer of Kingsbury Episcopi, in Somerset, was married on 19 October 1777 to Martha NORTHOVER, in his wife's parish, Cerne Abbas, Dorset, by licence - a possible sign of needing to marry in haste or that his prospective wife was under age. In the following years, their children were baptised at Kingsbury. In 1783, William was a witness the Martock marriage of Thomas Axe, a shoemaker, his possible apprentice, and Elizabeth Bandfield, a mantuamaker, both of the parish - a link to Martock. Possible ancestors of William, also cordwainers, were from Martock. William died poor, probably following illness, in 1791, although he has not been found in any parish poor records. The family, at that time, comprised six children, ages 3 to 16 (maximum), and William's death would have made them paupers. The burial at Kingsbury Episcopi on 19 June 1791 - "Por" was in the same handwriting as the East Lambrook baptisms. (Note also: P (=pauper) or Poor was also used to avoid 3d tax that the clergy had been asked to collect from individuals on baptismal, marriage and burial records from 1783 to 1794 and presumably paid by the parish, instead.) His daughter married a cordwainer in 1807. No confirmed baptism or parents have been found for William? Does anyone know about the life of a Cordwainer or Shoemaker in Somerset and Dorset in C17th/C18th? In late C19th, the surname became ROWE.
Isaac Humphry
I still can't find a baptism for my 2 x Gt. Grandfather, Isaac Humphry, who was a farmer living at East Lambrook and was born c.1798, son of James Humphry. He married Elizabeth Stark on 26th August 1838 at Kinsbury Episcopi and I know he had a sister called Billah who was aged 70 in the 1851 census as she was living with him. I also believe that he had at least 2 other sisters, as in the 1841 census Billah is living with both Mary and Jane Humphry in West Lambrook, together with a female servant.
red mail Male family
My great grandfather was a James (Jimmy) Male of Kingsbury and worked on a farm located in the area. He had three sons, the eldest was Howard, who in turn had three sons, I hope this helps. I think there was a connection to cider making but I am not sure.

red mail Harding
Looking for information (bap, parents, etc) for Lemuel Harding from Kingsbury Episcopy. Lemuel is normally a male name, but Lemuel Harding was a female and married Joseph Clark at South Petherton in 1745. It is possible she may have been a widow at the time. She may have been Lemuel Butcher who previously married Thomas Harding at SP in 1731.
Best/ Cannon
I'm researching the Best and Cannon families from East Lambrook/ Kingsbury. Does anyone have any information on John Best (born abt 1795) who married Mary Ann Cannon (born abt 1805) in Kingbury around 1827. I think John Best's father was Joel Best (born about 1771). John had a son also called John who was born in 1831 and married Emma Hill. Any information about either family gratefully received.
Duck family
I'm looking for more information about Thomas Duck born about 1816 in Kingsbury Episcopi. He had a wife, Mary (possibly Mary Thomas born about 1827). Thomas and Mary had at least 4 children called George (b abt 1847), Elizabeth (b 1850), Charles (b 1854) and John (b 1858). I would be grateful for any further information as i've been unable to trace them back a further generation.

Shopland Family
From the early 1600s the SHOPLAND surname has appeared in this village. The first recording was about 1610 when the baptism of Eleanor was recorded as the child of Richard Shopland. It is thought the some Shoplands moved out of Devon into Somerset during the 1600s and it is this subject which is being investigated. Any item about any Shoplands from any period would be appreciated.
