James ASTBURY is my 4 x Great Grandfather. He married Sarah LOWE 31st July 1819 (confirmed by Litchfield Archives). Sarah LOWE died 1840 (possibly during or shortly after childbirth). James died 7 Jan 1860. I would appreciate any help with this family, preferrably with confirmed sources. I'm looking for any info on Thomas Jenkins. He married Anna/Hannah Wallett in Wombridge, Shrops in 1820. When he died in Shifnal in 1849, he was a charter master. He was a collier on 1841 census. I have no idea where he was born but he was aged 50 when he died. Many thanks.

He was a corporal in the army in WW1 believe he had 3 sisters and 1 brother his father was Edwin Joseph Moreton and his mother was Louisa. An Eleanor Nurse is shown in the 1841 Shifnal Census - aged 70, independent. It seems she was the Eleanor Reynolds, baptised Kemberton 1764, daughter of John and Mary; and that she married John Nurse in Kemberton in 1785. In a family diary she is shown as visiting Reynoldses in S Shropshire in 1836, but in order to identify the exact connection I need more information about John and Eleanor - please!

Looking for any info on Ann Anslow born c1815 - census records say East Indies on Sea British Subject or West Indies depending on census year. She appears to have married in Brewood, Staffs in 1832. Her husband was John Holmes and they had at least 9 children - James, Louisa, John, Michael,Rosanna (died in infancy), Sarah, Rebecca, Ellen and another Rosanna. They are living Shifnal, Shropshire from 1841 - 1881. By 1881 Ann is a widow.

Starting with my GGG Grandfather, Thomas Dodd born abt 1787 in Shropshire and dying in 1847 (Shifnal) I have many many Dodd relatives who were living in the area of Sheriff Hales, Sheriffhales, Shifnal and generally close to the border with Staffordshire. Trying to find any info on Thomas BROOME and his wife Sarah GERRARD who in 1841 had 8 children - Mary Ann 1831, Richard,1833,James 1835,Thomas 1837, Joseph, 1839, John 1841, Sarah 1842 and Jane 1844. Seeking the burials of my grt. grt grandparents who moved from Handsworth to Shifnal via Wellington in the mid 1840's --- 1851 inkeeper at the Victoria Hotel. -- 1861 inkeeper of the Star Hotel. 1871 -- living at The Horse Fair as a Post Boy. 1881--living in High Street, (As a Cab Proprietor.) Children -- John Peter Wood born Handsworth. -- Benjamin Frances Wood born Wellington. and --Henry Charles Wood born Shifnal. I believe Mary Ann died the end of 1881 or 1882, and John in approximately 1887 to 1889. As they both passed away in Shifnal, I presume they may be interned in the Parish Churchyard, if so, when? Any help greatly appreciated.

I am looking for the father/mother/siblings of John Lloyd,born about 1803 in the Shifnal/Snedshill/Madeley are. John married Maria Cotton (b.22/2/1809) on the 4/10/1823 in Shifnal. Maria was the daughter of William Cotton (b.2/4/1784) and Sarah Cotton (nee Edwards - b.24/9/1791). They married on the 4/5/1809. William Cotton was the son of William Cotton (b.2/4/1758) and Catherine Cotton (nee Watts b.1757, they married on the 4/3/1783 in Clunbury, Shrops. John & Maria left Shropshire in 1840 and moved to Pelsall, Nr. Walsall, West Midlands, with 5 of their children: Sarah b.1825, Thomas b.1829, Edward b.1831 and Richard Charles b.1832, Rupard b.1833 ( all these children were christened at Priors Lee, Shrops.). Two more children followed born in Pelsall, William Henry b.1840 and Elizabeth b.1842. Are there any decendents of any of these Lloyd/Cotton families out there?? Here's hoping!!

From The Century Cyclopedia of Names 1895 Thomas Beddoes was born at Shifnal in Shropshire 13th April 1760 and died 24th December 1808. An English physician and scientist. He was reader in chemistry to the University of Oxford 1788-92 and establishedat Bristol in 1798 a Pneumatic Institute for the treatment of disease by inhalation, in which he employed as his assistant Humphry Davy. Author of - Isaac Jenkins 1793 - Hygeia or Essays Moral and Medical 1801-02 etc.
Shropshire Roots
My grandparents, Priscella Allen, daughter of Alfred & Elizabeth Allen and Henry Schmidt son of Joseph Schmidt were married in St Mary's Shifnal Church 20 December 1908. Their eldest son Joseph Kaarl Schmidt was born in 1910 and my mother Elizabeth Maria Veronica Schmidt was born 11 April 1914. I visited Shropshire in 1997 and was not able to make contact with any of my English Roots to my chagrin.
