red mail WALSH, BRADY, FLANAGAN
My great great grandfather Matthew Walsh born c.1818 in Elphin, Co. Roscommon to Luke Walsh and Margaret Flanagan, married Mary Brady in Elphin c.1838. I have not found Matthew's baptism record. His brothers and sisters, Michael born 1823, Peter and Luke, twins, born 1826, Brigid born 1829 and Rose born 1831 were described in their baptisms as living in Culleen townland of Elphin. Matthew himself put Tully in Roscommon as his origin on his shipping list when he came by assisted immigration with his wife on the Lady Clarke, arriving in Sydney on 26/12/1841. He died in Young, NSW in 1904. Mary Brady's parents were Peter John Brady and Mary Walsh. We think that this Mary Walsh was a sister of Luke Walsh and therefore, Matthew married his first cousin. Mary was born approx 1819 and died aged 50 in 1869 in Bathurst NSW.
