red mail HOLM, Margaret, married with BARR, John.
Dau Jean was baptised in 1761 Father: John Barr Mother: Margaret Holm Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland D: Unknown, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Jean would marry SCLATTER, John, and their children would be Martha Sclater 1777 Jean Slater 1779 Mathew Slater 1781 Wallace Slater 1783 Margaret Slater 1784 Elizabeth Slater 1786 David Slater 1788 John Slater 1790 David Slater 1792 Martha would marry Gavin Hamilton 1773 died 5 January 1837. HOLM, Margaret, does seem to have been daughter to William, 25 Oct 1730 Kilmacolm,Renfrew,Scotland a HOLM Margaret dau to William was baptised; am not sure as to the distance separating Kilmacolm and Paisley, and thus not sure whether Holm is the right Margaret, although the dates seem to match reasonably well and a BARR Jean isn't baptised to any other person in the local vicinity and era. Does anyone have any idea save as to Margaret's mother- whoever was married to William?
red mail SCLATTER, John, married with CRAIGE, Maren.
Mr John Sclatter married Ms Maren Craige at Abbey Paisley in Paisley, and they had a son David, who would in turn have a son also David, with a GEMMILL, Bessie. Here are the details on the SCLATTER and CRAIGE wedding at Paisley. Name: John Sclatter Gender: Male Marriage Date: 16 Jan 1672 Marriage Place: Abbey Paisley,Renfrew,Scotland Spouse: Maren Craige FHL Film Number: 1041087, 0102048 As yet have no details on who Maren and John were; there's a Marion Craige in Edinburgh who's mother is a Ms Elizabeth Broun, but she doesn't seem likely given the distance and the time period we're talking about, here. As said in another post here, Sclatter would over time become Sclater. Their son would marry a Bessie GEMMILL, the dau to GEMMILL, William, and a WYLIE, Jonet. Their son David would eventually marry PINKERTON, Margaret, and then their son John would have a dau Martha who would marry into HAMILTON. To put it a little more simply: Maren Craige 8th great-grandmother David Sclatter (1692 - ) son of Maren Craige David Sclatter (1720 - ) son of David Sclatter John Sclater (1756 - ) son of David Sclatter Martha Sclater (1777 - ) daughter of John Sclater John Hamilton (1801 - ) son of Martha Sclater Isabella Bell Hamilton (1835 - 1921) daughter of John Hamilton Lavinia Campbell Mullins (1879 - 1947) daughter of Isabella Bell Hamilton
red mail PINKERTON, Margaret and SCLAT(t)ER, David (1720- death date unknown).
Wonsering whether anybody could locate anything on PINKERTON, Margaret. Already have the records on their children John and Jean. David was the son of David, and have his baptismal record saved already. His mother's maiden was GEMMILL, and it's likely that the correct GEMMILL, a woman with the name Bessie, is the one is the genealogy tree. Thus only require help with the PINKERTON side, please. It's likely that there were John and Jean either as parents or aunt and uncle, given the Scottish traditions, though can't be certain as it didn't alwayd work out like that. Would sincerely appreciate any help you could give, thankyou. Please also note, the surname Sclatter seems to lose a t when Jean comes along, and that's why it's so puzzling with regard to tracing the above people.
WELLMEADOW STREET, PAISLEY
At the time of her death in 1959 my great grandmother Rachel Nicholson was living at 8 Wellmeadow Street, Paisley. I believe that her son Roderick may also have lived there as he gave the same address when reporting the death.( When he died in 1977 however, his address was shown as 32, Barterholm Road, Paisley.)Rachel's daughter Kate/Catherine Russell was also living at 8, Wellmeadow Street, at the time of her death in 1970. Her husband Robert Miller Russell had died in 1965 also at 8 Wellmeadow Street. I am desperate for any information that anyone may have in regard to any of these people, or any children. My father grew up not knowing that he had living relatives in Scotland. His own father moved to England circa 1934. Can anyone out there help at all?

red mail Christina Orr nee Stewart
Christina Stewart bc1823 Lanarkshire, Scotland I believe! Christina married a gent with the surname of 'Orr'. I have no information re the spouse nor have I found any relating to the marriage. I presume based on the children's age 1846-1847 period. Christina Orr nee Stewart married James Palmer b1805 County Tyronne, Ireland on 5 jan 1851 @ Abbey (Paisley) Renfrew, Scotland (found family search). From an extract taken off the 1851 Census of Scotland (March 1851) for Abbey Parish, Paisley, Renfrew for a single entity address 9 Brick Lane; there is James Palmer 39, Benjamin Palmer 10 (son of James), Elizabeth Palmer 2 (dau of Christina), Christina Palmer 25 (wife), James Palmer 4mths (son of Christina). RBTL; James and Christina both had prior marriages, I have no information about Benjamin Palmer except from the census, the other 2 children I presume were born to Christina's first marriage Elizabeth b1848, James b1850 I have recorded with surname Orr. I base my scenario on a first marriage to a mr Orr on family feedback, I have no source or facts to support this detail. In 1852 James & Christina had dau Christina born in Paisley, James and Christina then immigrated to NZ their next 11 Children (1854-1869 whew) were all born in NZ. I would like to find out what may have happened to the 3 children from Christina & James prior marriages; in the family documents I have seen and from feedback via descendants there is only mention of Elizabeth & James Orr but no record of them coming to NZ. Nothing at all re Benjamin. Also if I could resolve Christina's first spouse's details. Thanks - Brian Further info from the 1851 census record it shows that James Palmers Son Benjamin was born in Gibraltar. James Palmer served in the Brit Army Disch June 1844 1st Reg Foot 1 Battalion. according to records he served 9 & 5/12 overseas years the last 2 5/12 in Gibraltar which sort of coincides with Birth of son Benjamin. I cannot find any reference to a wife or the birth on the records I have for James. it looks like his number was 365 he joined 28 Jan 1826.

He was exiled to the colonies in 1682 as a covenanteer along with his wife (Marjory Johnston?) and young daughter Barbara b. cr 1669. James and his wife both died on the voyage over, but Barbara survived. I am decended from this line and it is very well documented from the time Barbara arrived in Perth Amboy NJ, but I can find no documentation for this particular family in Scotland. Family legends say that James was related to the Humes of Ninewells and also some relation to David Hume of Godscraft. Also, the story was that he was imprisoned and stripped of land and title before being exiled. Supposedly, he had a brother who was a royalist and close to the King which is why he was banished and not executed. Any information would be much appreciated. Thankyou!

I believe James Albert Gilmour was then adpoted by John Knox (glazier master) and brought up in Glasgow. For years I have searched for James Watt Gilmour birth but cannot find it. However, I have found a Thomas Gilmour Shawl Manufacturer born about 1789 who married Margaret Watt 1808 Abbey Paisley. They had a large family Marion, Archibald, Thomas, John, George and William and I have followed them in the censuses to 1901. No mention of James Watt apart from Thomas Gilmour's will 1863 where his son's names include James. Can anyone help me to solve this riddle.

red mail Roderick White 1900-before 1906
My great grandfather was married once before he married my great grandmother. He was Thomas Leitch White, born in Ireland in 1874, came to Greenock in 1875. He married Mary Carr in Greenock in 1899, and they had a son Roderick, probably born in Paisley in 1900. They show up in the 1901 census in Paisley. By 1906, we know Tom was back in Greenock - he married my great grandmother Lizzie Brymner there in April. It appears to have been a bigamous marriage (no evidence yet found of divorce or annulment), and he almost immediately left for Canada, with wife to follow later. We know that Mary Carr went back to live with her parents, and when she remarried in 1911, she called herself a spinster, rather than a divorcee. What we don't know is what happened to young Roderick. We have to assume he died prior to 1906. Would anyone have access to death listings from 1901-1906 for Greenock or Paisley. I've tried and it might be that the many ways to spell Roderick is what's giving me grief.
