red mail SMITH - ORPHAN BROTHERS
Charles and Albert Smith were orphans and lived with a very strict uncle in Oxford England. We have no knowledge what the parents names where or when they were born other than to estimate about 1860's. At the age of about 17, the boys decided to run away and made their way to Southhampton where they hoped to get work on a ship and work their way to another country. Somehow they got separated, Albert ended up on a ship going to Canada and Charles landed in Cape Town. At some stage he returned to England and got married and later returned to South Africa and died 1904. At stage in his later life an Anglican minister in Ladysmith saw an advertisement in the overseas church magazine, to trace the relatives of Albert Smith who died in Canada. contact in response to the advert was never made and we do not know if Albert had any children or if he ever visited England again. I am hopefully optimistic of some obscure info being found.
