The village of Small.
I am trying to find anything about a village/manor called Small. Apparently a William Hastings of Small,Notts. inherited land in Drakenage Warwickshire in 1536 which he sold by 1571. I can't find any modern day reference to Small where he was a land owner. Any ideas???

Following further information that has come to light since my entry of a few days ago asking for help in tracing family of my paternal grandfather John Kerry, it now transpires that his death certificate dated June 1952 shows his surname to have been CAREY and his age as 75, putting his birth year as 1877. All other details in my previous entry remain the same.

I am looking for help in tracing my paternal grandfather John KERRY born in 1887 (thought to be in the 'Midlands' and with a possible second name of Thomas? ) who married Rosetta CUNNELL from Stradbroke, Suffolk in 1921. On their marriage certificate John has listed his father's name as James. John was known to have lived in Theberton, Suffolk when his first child, a boy named Horace was born. A second son Edward Charles was born in 1924 but unfortunately he died in January 1925 followed a few days later by his wife. Leaving Horace to be brought up by a great aunt, John moved into nearby Leiston where he lodged with a Miss May BARNARD. John was thought to have died in or around 1960. Please can anyone help.

Searching for birth information on William Hill - on marriage record to Mary Ann Rose (1901), his father is listed as John. He appears in the 1901 census with his wife in Nottingham as boarders, his birthplace is listed as Nottingham and his occupation is a sewing machine agent. In the 1911 census the family has moved to Leicester and his birthplace is listed as New Basford. He does not seem to be in the 1881 or 1891 census with John as his father, can anyone help please. Arthur James Dennison b1891 Radford Nottingham, appears in the 1911 census staying with my grandparents Fred Norman Unsworth and Florence Ann (nee Dennison) in Leigh, Lancashire,as the nephew. One of their children was a Thomas Phipps Taylor who in Feb of 1910 sent a letter to America informing my GGG grandfather, Thomas Taylor of the death of his brother Augustin. The letter indicates that Thomas Phipps Taylor lived on Plains Road, Mapperley, Nottingham. The letter also mentioned the villages of Carlton and Arnold. He was married and had 3 children Agnes Margaret, called Daisy, Thomas Edward, called Teddy, and William Henry called Billy. I would like to meet me English relatives if any still exist.

He married Prudence Knight in 1883 at Hucknall and when she died in 1900, he apparently remarried a Martha Bettley in 1903. After that there is no trace of him anywhere. Looking for descendants of Richard Lewis Allsop born in 1819 and died April 18, 1893 Nottingham/Nottinghamshire and his son Ephraim Augustus Allsop, born 1851 Sheffield Yorkshire died in US 1927. Ephraim left for the U.S. with his wife Alice and his two daughters Rosa Lavinia Allsop ca.1890's my great grandmother being one of them, the two older boys stayed in the UK around Nottingham. Among the descendants are the Murphy family.

My grandfather was Thomas Henry Slater born in 1897 to Arthur Slater and Elizabeth Masding. In the 1901 Census they have the same surname although weren't married. Arthur Slater was born in 1859, one of 8 children born to John and Caroline Slater, living in Mansfield area of Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire. His siblings were Emily born c1844, John born c1849, William born c1851, Charles born c1853, Jane born c1855, James born c1857 and Joseph born c1863. I am the granddaughter of Thomas Henry Slater.
